Puppy update

posted in Puppy News |

Well, the breeder called me last night and informed me that our new puppy had developed some sort of skin condition and was losing hair in spots.  She immediately took her to the vet who proceeded to run all sorts of tests on the poor little thing.  They didn’t find anything at all wrong, so they’re thinking it could be allergy related.  She had been out in the grass for her first time the day before and may have had a reaction.  The breeder didn’t think she’d been bitten by anything.  They started giving her daily baths with an antibacterial shampoo and we’re waiting to see if that helps.  I will get an update from the breeder tomorrow.  Now we’re trying to decide if we should still bring the puppy home or not and wait for another one.  My daughter is very upset, she’s all ready started a scrapbook with the puppy’s baby pictures!  Just our luck, even buying a puppy became overly stressful!

I’m so sorry this is happening. Hopefully, by waiting a week or so the condition will clear up and you can bring your puppy home.

o wanted to see your puppy. Is there a picture on your web? I’ll look a little harder.

Hi :) If you decide to bring the puppy home, I would do it with the condition that if it does, indeed, have a skin problem, you can either return the puppy and wait for a new one, or the breeder pays the vet bills. If I were you, I would want to make sure the pup doesn’t have skin mites or mange. Just my two cents. :)

What a sweet little thing! I would understand the heartbreak—so precious! Good luck with everything!

    Hi Leigh,
Yes, we decided it would be best if we did not bring this puppy home. She had been tested for mange and the vet did not find that, or anything else for that matter. I just didn’t want to bring a puppy home with uncertain health issues.

Thanks Robyn! I think we’ve made a difficult but wise decision to go with a different puppy and different breeder. It was just one of those things, but I’m glad it happened before we brought the other one home!

I am sorry to hear that, but you are right it is probly better for all involved, the breeder can keep an eye on him and I’m sure he will find a new home, as he is extermly cute. And the new puppy is also extrmly cute. what a joy!

Tiffany - Yes, I agree, that 1st little puppy will find a good owner once the vet & breeder can determine the cause of the skin irritation. We just weren’t comfortable with the unknown. We just can’t wait though to pick up the new healthy puppy, have to wait another week though!

You have made the right decision. How wonderful to have a new puppy.

Yes, we feel good about our decision to change puppies. I probably would’ve stayed with the same breeder, but she didn’t have any more puppies available right now. Puggles are definitely not the easiest puppies to find.
