A Trying Day for Potty Training

Today started out pretty normal, except for Plinko getting up at 6:30 (she’s been waiting until 7).  By the time I threw some pants on in order to take her outside, she’d peed in her crate, something she’s only done a couple of times.  I let her out and we immediately headed out the door where she did do the rest of her business before coming in to have her breakfast.

 After that, things started to go downhill.  Every time I took the dog out to go potty, she’s end up just playing with the bushes and eating leaves.  I’d pick her up & bring her inside where she’d promptly pee on the kitchen floor.  We did this 3 times before I put her in her crate out of frustration.  The only good thing was that she was using the kitchen floor instead of the carpeted family room to pee on!

After lunch my daughter & her friend wanted to swim so I agreed to watch them while they were in our pool.  I was sitting outside, so I let Plinko stay outside with us as well.  She got her fill of chewing on bushes and eating leaves while at the same time exploring the yard and trying to get in the pool with the girls.  I actually saw her go potty twice while she was out!   We came indoors about 45 minutes ago and almost immediately Plinko was wandering around by the door, so, I took her out again.  She meandered about and finally followed me out into the yard where she pooped!  YAY!

We came back in and she’s now asleep on my lap.  If you’re wondering, I don’t currently use a leash with her because she just lays down and tries to eat it!  She’s going to chew her way through it instead of going potty while we’re outside!   

In one of her cuter moments this morning, she had pulled her bed out of her crate and I guess she thought she was sleeping “in” it!   I have to look back at her cute pictures when I get frustrated with her!  So many time today I’d like to have used a phrase from Kate “Bite Me”!

    Thanks! We’re trying and some days with training are better than others. She’s just 9 weeks old, so it might be a little while longer before she’s fully trained.

    Leigh, thanks for the kind words of support! I’m hoping it clicks sooner rather than later but we’ll just keep working on it. We had a Siberian Huskey that was so afraid of thunder. I always felt bad for him because he was way too big and heavy to hold during a storm! I don’t know if there’s anything to do to make them less afraid.
