Did School Start Yet?

posted in kids |

We moved from the Chicago area where the kids are returning to school today, it’s hard to believe the summer break is over!  Here in the Dallas area the kids aren’t going back to school until Monday.  My daughter is actually very excited to be going back to school and entering 6th grade.  She’s ready to meet some friends and get back into some activities, including band.  We moved right at the end of the last school year, so she didn’t really have time to meet anyone.  There are two other children on our street, but they are pre-school age so that didn’t work out.  There was a girl and her family that lived behind us who was the same age as my daughter and they hung out up until a few weeks ago when the family moved to Philadelphia, very sad.

Anyway, we have done most of the back to school shopping, a few new clothes (it’s too hot to buy long sleeves & denim right now) and most of the school supplies.  Today we plan on going to the music store to buy her supplies for band.  She all ready has her instrument, we brought it with us from Illinois, but she needs a metronome and a few other things.   We might try to hit Office Depot to find a new binder, she didn’t care for the ones at Target.  Then we’ll be done and can enjoy the last few days of summer vacation.

Have your kids started school yet?

In Germany there are 2 weeks left for the kids. And also for my colleagues to come back to work…

Hello! Yes, they startted Monday here - a good thing, and not so good!
Thanks for visiting, and for your kind words!

So Eliot, are you the only one at work, are your colleagues on vacation? I hope you got some time off as well. :-)

Stine - yes, I’m looking forward to school starting so we get back into a routine, but at the same time, it’s nice having free time and not being so structured! :-)

YUP! School started here last Thursday! Some of the surrounding districts start at different times, however. We’ve already been doing cheerleading practice for almost two months now, so it’s a little easier to get back into the routine. Our summer technically ended in the beginning of July, I guess!

Leann, we’d be in the same boat if we hadn’t relocated. We moved right at the end of the school year so my daughter didn’t have time to join in any clubs or activities. I’m sure all of that will quickly change once school gets started next week!

Eliot, I know what you mean. No matter how much time off we get it seems we could always use more! :-D

We just moved in July 2006 from Dallas to Alabama. It’s hard to start over like that. Tell my folks I say “Hi”, ok? ;)

They start school here SO EARLY!! Last year was Aug. 7 and this year was Aug. 9!! The kids are bummed!

What district is your daughter in?

My husband has been travelling quite a bit to Huntsville, AL since taking his new job in January. We are in the Allen school district. Open house was tonight at school and we got to see the classroom, our daughters desk, and meet the teacher. She was very nice and also new to the district. I think (hope) it will be a good year.
When will the school year end in AL?
