Homeowner’s Association

I am just a wee bit ticked off right now.  It’s been 24 hours since I received a postcard in the mail from our Homeowner’s Association and I’m still ticked off about it!  I’m trying to decide what to do.  Before I tell you what the post card says I have to tell you some background.

We moved into this house in April.  The house was built very well in 2001 but was in need of some TLC due to the previous owners treating it like it was their own personal hockey rink.  I’m not kidding when I say that!  Their teenage son plays ice hockey and apparently practiced all over the house, inside and out.  There are dings and dents everywhere.  In addition, there are holes in the walls from the gazillion 10-penny nails they used EVERYWHERE to hang pictures.  I’ve been repairing and repainting walls since we moved in.   All of this damage was carefully concealed by the previous owners.  They were still moving out when we did our walk thru so we didn’t see a lot of it.

Because I’ve been so busy working on the inside, I spent the extra money and hired a landscaping crew to trim all the bushes (and there are a ton of bushes!) and get rid of all the weeds.  Since then, I’ve been maintaining the landscaping, putting in fresh mulch, keeping up with the weeds and doing all my own trimming.  My husband mows an immaculate lawn and we have been working on getting rid of all the weeds that had overtaken huge sections of the yard.  In other words, we’ve been working our butts off since April.

Yesterday, we got a card in the mail from the Homeowner’s Association requesting we “remove the dead plants by the driveway”.  I have to say, I’m ticked!  We had about 2 solid weeks of temperatures over 100 and I had the most beautiful plants that were blooming until the heat fried them.  They aren’t dead, but they look like sticks.  They are still blooming and are getting new leaves.  They were injured, but not killed.  I think the HOA needed to verify their data.  Trust me, around this neighborhood there are much bigger problems than my 4 little plants to worry about!.

Here are pictures, one from the end of the street and one close up so you can see that the plants, while not thriving, are not dead.

Thanks Mimi! I know they’re somewhat dingy, but they’re not dead! They were really beautiful before the heat wave. I’m just trying to give them a chance to come back before I cut them back for winter. :-D

And if you don’t remove them…..?

Sheesh, they aren’t dead, they are resting.

I could understand if they were giant brown dehydrated shrubberies, but they’re so little! You can hardly even see them there from the street picture. What a bunch of morons. Stupid HOA’s.

Oh DJ! That’s a good one, I think I’ll have to tell the HOA that! That’s perfect! :-D

Loretta – I would’ve understood somewhat better had they complained about the 6ft tall rose bush that’s dead in my back yard, but no, they complained about these little things that ,as DJ so nicely said, are resting! I just think there have got to be better and bigger issues for a HOA to be concerned about. Makes me wonder if our next door neighbor complained, they see them as their driveway is right next to ours. I’m sure I’ll never know.

I really hate Homeowners Associations who feel it is their business to get into everything little thing. So its a year later – how did it go with your plants?
