Fabric Shopping – Time to Sew

posted in sewing |

I made my first trip to Joann’s Fabric store today since our move back in April!  I’ve put it off because I really had so many other things to keep me busy and I know that once I start sewing everything else will come to a halt!

My objective today was to get felt (by the yard) that I knew was on sale, for my daughter’s Halloween costume.  She wants to be a package of Sugar Babies and the only place I’ve found that has this simple costume for sale wants $30, plus shipping!  So, I bought yellow felt and will make a simple slip over the head, totally rectangular, dress.  I also bought red felt to make the letters and designs out of and we can just glue them all on, very simple and it cost me about $6, + another $1 for yellow thread.

While I was there I went and checked out all the clearance decorator fabrics.  I actually wound up buying 3 yards to make 2 valances for my bathroom and I bought another 3 yards to make a shade for my kitchen window.  Hopefully I can figure out how to do these as I’m not using a pattern.  I’ll have to keep you posted.  I also bought several spools of thread while it was on sale, some fabric glue and one tension rod for the kitchen window.

In total, I spent $50 and will have 3 valances and a Halloween costume to show for it!

I am so glad you are enjoying the things I writing about. Helen keeps leaving anti-Mormon comments on all my blogs! She is hurting my spirit! Mike reads your comments and said, “I think Lynne is a Mormon” I told him that you weren’t, you were a nice person, who can enjoy other people’s experiences without being judgemental. He keeps asking me where you live. I tell him I don’t know, either Chicago or Canada. You need to fill me in on these things.

    Hi Peggy!
Well, if people leave “anonymous” comments, especially hurtful ones, I’d delete them, it is afterall, your blog, not theirs. Anyway, yes, I am open minded (at least I try to be) and find learning about other faiths can be very valuable and interesting. We lived in the Chicago area until April when we moved to the Dallas area. I don’t like moving, but I do love traveling. I don’t get to do it nearly as often as I would like and so, yes, I really do enjoy hearing about other peoples adventures. :-D

Thanks for peeking in on me at Snoskred! Looking forward to getting to know you via your blog. That costume sounds like fun. I love anything that involves sewing simple rectangles!

Melissa – Hopefully it be as simple as it looks! It may be a week or so before I get the costume done but I figure I have until the end of October! I will post a picture or two when I get it done. :-D

Liv – Thanks for visiting! As anyone who know me will tell you, I can’t sew a straight line! This costume should be pretty simple, hopefully I won’t screw it up! :-D

Can’t wait to see photos of the costume! Sounds really cute! And about the valances and shade…I so need to do this too. I keep putting it off even though I know I will like my space more if I go ahead and make them…there’s just other things I want to do! lol!

Hi Jenny, thanks for visiting! I got the valances for my bathroom cut out, but haven’t started the actual sewing yet. I did pick up a couple of curtain rods at Target this morning, so, if I get them made, I’ll be able to hang them! :-D
