Black Friday

Black Friday

I mentioned yesterday that holiday shopping at the mall is not something I want to do, in fact, I detest it. Fighting the crowds begins in the parking lot and continues through the shopping process and all the way to the check out. I just don’t like crowds and I hate wasting time standing in line. It makes me feel more like a grinch than anything else.

I used to enjoy going out shopping the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, though, it sort of got me in the holiday spirit. Now though, the stores open so early, some as early as 4 or 5 A.M., that the thought of going is just a turn off. I’d rather spend those hours sleeping in my nice warm bed!  I had attempted to go Circuit City at 5 A.M. a few years back on Black Friday.  I arrived a few minutes before the store was to open and by the time I found a place to park, trudged through the snowy slush in the dark to the door I found a HUGE line of people pushing their way through the door and into the overcrowded aisles. I had to struggle just to find my way to the aisle containing the one item I was looking for. When I finally got there it was only to discover the item was all ready sold out. I considered looking for some other items on the family’s wish list, but when I took a look at the enormous crowd in the store, I knew I’d much rather go back home, crawl back into my pajamas and have some coffee in the quiet of my own home. That’s exactly what I did!

I still like to view the Black Friday ads that come out in the newspaper usually on Thanksgiving Day, but I tend to not actually go to the store to buy anything. I realize these are very good deals, but I also realize that very few people actually get the offered deal as they are limited supply offers. Now though, to make it easier, I can actually purchase Black Friday items online! And, to make it even better, I can sign up with my email address to receive an email when the Black Friday ads are made available. I can actually see the ad before it comes out in the newspaper so I can plan a little farther in advance. This site also offers direct links to each advertised product so you can make a quick purchase without ever having to stand in line! Very cool, I love shopping in my jammies!  This year, Black Friday is taking on a whole new look for me!

I’m awful about going shopping on Black Friday. I know I should — the savings are so fantastic — but I just can’t handle crowds, noise, parking lot congestion or those annoying little bell ringers who make me feel guilty every time I hurry past without emptying my wallet into their red buckets.

But, hey, if I can get the same deals online, I am DEFINITELY going to spend Black Friday in a cafe with free Wi-Fi and let my husband think I’m off battling other shoppers in the store.

Oh god! How could I forget about the bell ringers?! One more reason to definitely stay away and stay online!
