McDonald’s Monopoly - We Win!

McDonald’s Monopoly - We Win!

Okay, we didn’t win the million dollars or even the $50K.  All right, I didn’t even win $10, but we did win!  We won a free download of the Monopoly Here and Now game (supposedly valued at $19.99!).  I guess that’s better than nothing huh?

Strange thing is , the site made it sound like we got to choose which game to download, but never did we see where we could choose.  We all ready own the regular version of Monopoly on cd-rom and of course we have the board version of the game.  I think we would’ve liked to have been able to choose, but I guess a prize is a prize!

I think even better than that though is that while we were at the grocery we bought some Klondike Heath bars and I can’t wait to have one!  That’s my treat for the day.  :-D

Computer Cables

Okay, I know I’m not very techy, but I do know, our computers and printers won’t run without proper cables. Most electronics (except for printers) come with the necessary cables to run them but anyone who has ever moved, relocated or even had pets around their electronics knows that there are times when we need to purchase a replacement USB cable, power adapter or power cable. For the adventurous techy who may be looking to wire their own home or apartment, there are even wall plates and wall jacks for just about any need. My husband once ran a cable from the router located in the home office to my laptop in the family room by drilling a hole through the 2 sheets of drywall and pushing the cable through the two, not so attractive, holes. This probably would have looked much nicer if he had installed a wall jack to cover the holes!

I know I can go to the big box stores and pay top dollar for name brand cables and jacks, but many times they have a very limited selection and they are so expensive.

Why not purchase all the necessary replacement cables, jacks and even a HDMI Wall Plate online. These are the same high quality, and in some cases even better, than the name brands in the big box electronic stores and the prices are typically lower so money is saved.   I now know exactly where to look the next time my husband drills through drywall!

Children and colds

I am having one of those really long “bad mommy” moments.  Actually, it’s more like a “bad mommy” weekend.  My 11 yo had the worst cough and I don’t seem to be able to do anything about it.  I’m running out of ideas.

She started this cough on Wednesday or Thursday, just a few coughs here and there.  Thursday night it was getting worse.  She had trouble sleeping because the cough was waking her up.  Thankfully there was no school on Friday so we could sort of take it easy.  We did go do some shopping at the mall and just as we were leaving our last store she had a coughing fit.  I got her something to drink and she sucked on tic-tacs (that’s all I had with me) and we headed home.  She seemed okay the rest of the day, but by Friday night I could tell sleeping was going to be a problem.

I made sure she had water, cough drops and Vick’s vapor rub handy and rubbed on.  She only had a few coughing fits during the night, the Vicks seemed to help.  Last night was another story however.  We had spent a quiet day at home and I think she drank 3 or 4 cups of hot tea with honey during the day.  I used the vapor rub on her and gave her 2 Benadryl before she went to bed.  She coughed almost continuously during the night.  Amazingly, she says she’s not tired this morning, she felt like she slept good!  I think the Benadryl must’ve knocked her out at least, even though she was coughing.

She doesn’t have any other cold symptoms at all, just this cough.  I just don’t know what else I can do to help her.  She’s sitting here now coughing and then her eyes water and tears come down her cheak.  I just want to help her so bad!  Any suggestions?

Hotel Reservations

I am so ready for a vacation! I don’t see one in my near future, but I can always dream!

There are so many places I’d like to visit, Europe, Africa and yes, even locations all over the United States, are among places I’d like to go. There are so many wonderful places around the world to choose from it’s difficult to narrow it down. More than likely though our out of town experience will be next summer, hopefully we’ll be able to go to the Austin and San Antonio area to do some site seeing and some river tubing. It’s been so many years since we’ve been and I know our daughter would really have fun, especially tubing! The last time we went was probably 15 years ago. We headed out with no hotel reservations and just pulled into the first “historical” hotel we found. We checked in based on the looks of the interior, the lobby. It was beautiful. We should’ve checked out the rooms! It was disgusting and the bathroom was downright gross! Now I prefer to do some advance research so I know where I’m going to be laying my head at night.

In that area of Texas there are so many hotels and bed & breakfasts to choose from. I’m always afraid of choosing a place to stay only to be disappointed when we arrive. When I do start planning this trip though I’ll be sure to make my Hotel Reservations online. This way I can check out all types of available lodging, anything from hotels to resorts. If my family were to come for a visit, I could even check into something larger like vacation rentals.

The convenience of booking hotel reservations online is that by going to just one site I can get competitive rates and discount offers whether I’m booking locally or going International. The site gives great hotel descriptions and provides pictures of all accommodations as well as full descriptions of the guest rooms. Hotel or lodging facility features and amenities are also listed such as if there is a swimming pool or golf course available. I can also find out what local attractions are nearby whatever lodging I choose. I will definitely be booking online the next time I make travel reservations.
