I gave my Destination Imagination presentation to the PTA tonight, everyone, including my daughter, tells me it went fine. I felt like my voice was shaking and I couldn’t breath! One of the teachers who has so graciously offered to help me with this program, worked the powerpoint presentation for me so I just had to talk. I was so glad to have someone standing next to me!
Now we have to wait, and hope that at least a few parents will sign up to be Team Managers so that we can create more teams. I intend to manage (coach) a 6th grade team and tryouts are actually next week. We’d like to see a team or two from the younger grades so this program will continue even after this year. Next year my daughter will be in Junior High so I will be moving on as well.
Now on to the next step, I have to create a presentation to present to give to the 6th grade by Friday morning! Well, hopefully I can get some sleep tonight and relax before tackling that project. My daughter has agreed to help and I’m going to have her be a part of the presentation, she loves speaking in public while I hate it! Okay, I’ve exhausted myself today, see you all tomorrow!

Today’s “sports” injuries don’t only occur while playing sports. Many occur while doing simple things around the house or even while exercising. Several years ago I asked my husband to move the big screen T.V. (you remember those great big ones that they built in the ’90’s!) away from the wall so I could paint the wall behind it. He did as I asked, pulling tendons in his arm that required surgery to repair. Last year, while while working out on a weight machine at the gym, I tore a rotator cuff in my shoulder that required me to do six months of physical therapy just to be able to raise my hand above my head.
It’s accidents like these and the fact that there is no denying that my body is not getting any younger that make me aware of how important it is to know a board certified orthopaedic surgeon. Someone that is skilled and experienced in joint replacement and reconstruction as well as, in my case, offer effective treatment procedures such as physical therapy. A good orthopaedic surgeon will make a thorough examination to determine the cause of joint pain and provide surgery when needed followed by a complete recovery program designed for the patient.
If my husband or myself ever have to go through something like this again I would want an orthopaedic surgeon of the caliber of Dr. Allen Gustafson of Gustafson Orthopaedics. He specializes in hip and knee replacement and as we get older, those are both issues we may have to contend with.

Just about every week, following my daughter’s guitar lesson, we stop my a little gift shop that sells Webkinz. My daughter saves her money for these expenditures and she usually is looking for a particular one to add to her collection. This particular gift shop sells them cheaper than other stores in the area so my daughter knows it is a better value to go there to buy.
Today we went in looking for the new Webkinz German Shepherd. We walked in the door and I immediately saw a guy holding 2 German Sheperds in his hand and my daughter was somewhat frantically looking through the rack only to look at me and say “there aren’t any” and looking very sad as she said it.
This guy, who was probably in his early 30’s, somewhat good looking, looks at her and asks her which one she was looking for. She tells him the German Shepherd and right before my eyes he hands her one of the two he was going to buy! He said his two girls collect them but he could get another one later. I couldn’t believe it, how nice was that! In the mean time the shop keeper had come out of the back room and I asked her if she had anymore. She said she did so the man did wind up getting 2 after all and my daughter got 1 for herself. Everyone went home happy and I just can’t get over what a nice gesture the guy made.
Much to my hearts delight I know that there truly are still wonderful people in the world!

Okay, I wrote the other day my feelings on the local U.S. Postal Service. Truly I don’t think highly of them and I also mentioned that I’ve started using UPS more to ship packages. I shipped a small, lightweight box the other day at UPS and I sent it to Eastern Kentucky. I was very surprised at the cost, it was much more expensive than the heavier, bigger box that I shipped to California at the same time.
It really got me to thinking that it would be nice to be able to compare prices between the various shippers before actually taking the box and paying to ship it. I have found a way to do just that. I can now go to Shipping Sidekick and compare the shipping costs between USPS, UPS, FEDEX, and DHL. It’s really easy too, just fill in some key information like where the package is coming from and where it’s going to. You then simply type in the weight of the package being shipped and the site will provide an estimate from each of the four major shipping companies. Very cool!
Using Shipping Sidekick will save me time, frustration and money. Yes, I know the USPS may end up being cheaper in some situations, but at least I’ll be able to decide if paying a dollar or two more is worth it to take it some place else. In most cases, I will have to say YES!
To make the site even better, they also sell shipping and moving supplies, so I think Shipping Sidekick has become my new shipping headquarters!

Okay, I am presenting my powerpoint presentation to the PTA tonight at my daughter’s school. To say I’m nervous wouldn’t even begin to describe how I’m feeling! I absolutely hate speaking in front of people and I think I tend to ramble on when I do. I’ve created a powerpoint to try to keep me on track. My goal is to recruit other parents to do what I’m doing, become a Team Manager so that the school can have more than one team go to competition.
The principal of the school is very excited about me bringing this program to the school and she registered for what is called a 5-team pack with the National Organization. That means that we can have up to 5 teams for less than the price of 2! She really wants to keep this program going in future years, so we’re hoping to get some younger teams as well. I think we may definitely have a mom of a 4th grader who is willing, I just have to convince her!
Wish me luck!

Woke up this morning to temperatures in the 50’s! YAY! We finally feel like summer may be over, at last! We had a huge rain storm yesterday and received over 5 inches of rain. The good news is the storm brought cooler temperatures along with it and I love it! Of course, I have to enjoy it while I can because as soon as the sun comes out it will be humid as all get out and it is supposed to get up into the mid 80’s today!
I have so much to get done today and yet I really just want to enjoy the weather.
