I don't believe he's ever been recognized for the work he's done either. While Pirates is a huge money maker, many of his other movies are wonderful to watch. He really gets into each and every character and you don't really watch the movie seeing Depp, instead, you see the character he portrays. I think that's what makes him such an amazing actor. He's so versatile - from Gilbert Grape to Edward Scissorhands to Willie Wonka to Jack Sparrow. He is able to portray just about anyone. I was surprised they didn't use him for the part of Dorian Grey in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". He would have been perfect for it! I’ve been watching Johnny Depp for a long time.
