Kinderbuddies (aka Reading Tutors)

posted in kids |

We went out to dinner this evening and my daughter chatted all through the meal about her Kinderbuddy at school. Every Friday, the 6th graders work with their assigned Kinderbuddy, a student in Kindergarten for about an hour. They typically work on a project that the teacher has assigned and then they read together. It such a cute idea and my daughter loves it.

Tonight she made a comment about how when she first met her kinderbuddy about 7 weeks ago, the little girl was unable to read anything at all. Now, she is reading some sentences. Of course, my daughter feels responsible for her progress and I’m sure she has had some influence. My daughter is an avid reader and would like to be a teacher when she is older so this is right up her ally.

When she was talking about this it really emphasized to me the importance of reading to young kids as a tool that teaches them to read on their own. I know though that there are many instance when parent or family members either don’t have the time or perhaps can’t read themselves. Many times, English may be a second language, especially here in Texas, and this can result in reading difficulties for young children.

These are all cases of when using Reading Tutors would be a huge benefit. Young children gain such a high level of confidence when they can read things on their own. It is really fun to watch them learn such an important tool that they will use their entire lives. I think this is the joy that my daughter feels when she works with her kinderbuddy.

Good doing! I don’t think google is done yet. I had a 2 then a 1 and now I’m back to a 2 since yesterday. Go figure.

I don’t think Google is done yet either. Seems a lot of people are seeing their number bounce back & forth. I’ll just wait and see what the final number is, whenever that is!
