I’ve a Smile On My Face

posted in blogging |

With all the talk of Google and their coming down on those who do paid postings on their sites, I was quite nervous to say the least.  This blog is just under 4 months old, has never been through a Google PR update and has retained its N/A status, until last night.

Every once in a while I’ve been known to go to the PR checker and see what my site is doing, but I must admit, it’s sort of depressing to see all those 0’s all lined up.  It’s sort of like not having anything to show for my hard work.  Now I know, PR is not everything, but I must tell you, I do write paid posts and it’s not easy to get profitable, good offers to write about when your site is N/A in the Google category.  I have a decent Alexa ranking, even though I’ve seen it going slightly upwards the past couple of weeks, and my Technorati ranking is significantly improving, but that Google, they’re quite difficult to figure out.  Seems no one really knows what we bloggers need to do to get a decent PR from them, although there are many ideas and many of those ideas I have attempted to implement.  I couldn’t tell you what works and what doesn’t.

I do know that just before I went to bed last night I decided to run the PR checker again.  This time, to my pleasant surprise, I did not see 0’s, I saw all 2’s and 3’s.  Now, I’ve said that I would be happy with a PR of 1 and that is still true.  But, my average is a 2, so I am more than happy and I think if it had come up as a 3 I’d be doing backflips!  This is especially true because I know that so many of my favorite blogs have been taking PR hits.  I feel fortunate to get the PR2.

I do know that Google is not everything.  I get just as excited (if not more) when someone visits my site and even more excited when they decide to leave a comment.  Have I told you lately how much I love backlinks?  I feel like I’ve made a number of blogger friends and this is really what blogging is all about, but it’s nice to get paid for something I enjoy doing too.

Now, if the sites I do paid posting for will kindly do their updates so I can have better and more opportunities, I’d appreciate it!

Congratulations on the Page Rank Update. It’s terrific when we are rewarded for our hard work.
After reading your post I checked mine and my three blogs are being updated. Two blogs have not a definitive PR yet but my newest one is a PR1 which is great for me. The other two are between a 2 and a 3.

Sue - I know, it just feels good to be a part of the PR and not have the N/A anymore! :-D

Everyone keeps talking that the PR is fluctuating right now, so what we see today may not be what we see tomorrow, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you stay a 4!

Laura, it seems that the PR is still changing, but at least I now know my site is recognized, even if the number changes. I was really beginning to wonder if I was ever going to get rid of the N/A!

    hi lynne!

I must tell you, I’m as excited as you. I’ve been bloghopping earlier and was reading about posts of bloggers on their PR’s. I figure, I should check mine too. Wasn’t really looking forward to it because my blog is relatively new. To my plesant surprise, I thought I was just seeing things, my PR is 4. I didn’t know how I got there. PR 1 was all I’m aiming for. Whether it fluctuates or not, I’m just happy to be in the loop.

    Have a nice week ahead!

I just moved my blog so no surprised that it didnt get a PR (I’d had it on blogspot but wanted my own domain). I am really happy my main travel site got a 3 - its a static site so with little traffic - but something must be right!

I know what you mean Juliana, I would be happy with a PR 1 too. I about died last night when it went up to a 3! I know it’s still fluctuating, but I’m just glad to finally have a PR at all. :-D

Lissie - I know the PR is still fluctuating all over the place, so maybe it’s possible your site will still get included even though you just moved it. I don’t really know how all that works, but it feels good to finally have a PR of anything other than N/A! :-D
