Superhero to the Rescue

In a kitchen in need of updated applicances, we find Leah Stoven, Superhero. Her mission? To update old kitchen appliances into new and powerful ones that make lives easier for those who use them.

Today we find our superhero hunting down old, low powered, hand mixers and replacing them with a high performance Hamilton Beach® Mixer with 400 watts of power. These old mixers put up a strong fight, but they’re no match for our Superhero’s powers and are quickly updated and changed into a Hamilton Beach® Stand Mixer with accessories and a limited 3 year warranty.

No one is sure why these old mixers are putting up such a fight. After all, what mixer wouldn’t want to be an Eclectrics® Mixer ?

Halloween

Are you ready for Halloween?  We’ve finally got the decorations up and I’m almost done with my daughter’s costume.  We’ll be ready just in time for the trick-or-treaters.

This is our first year here, so I really have no idea how many trick-or-treaters to expect.  I bought a ton of candy and bought only things we like, so if we end up with a lot left over, we’ll eat it.  I hate getting stuck with stuff we don’t like.

My daughter’s costume will probably be done tomorrow, I ran out of fabric paint.  We cut letters from felt and liquid stitched them onto the costume.  Then we were outlining each letter with white fabric paint to make them stand out more and we ran out when we got to the last letter.  So, off to the hobby store I’ll go tomorrow to get another bottle.  Then I’ll be done.  I have my costume from last year and will just wear that.  I bought accessories for it today when we went to a Halloween store.

A little early, but Happy Halloween!

Online Games

I enjoy playing word and number games. I particularly like an online game called Word Whomp. I can spend way too much time playing games like that so I have to put myself on a time limit! My daughter is the same way, drives my husband nuts because he isn’t a game person at all.

Then there are auctions, oh my, those will get my blood pressure up in a hurry from the excitement of bidding! My sister has started going to some real life auctions and she’s coming home with some great stuff, I’d love to be able to tag along with her! She’s won a couple of boxes of fabric and when she got home and dug into the box found great things underneath the fabric like expensive scissors and sewing notions, it was like getting a box full of free gifts and put a huge smile on her face!

I found an online auction site where the lowest bid is the winner, sounds pretty intriguing. It’s very easy to bid and the site is user friendly. There are sweepstakes as well as cash prizes that can be won simply by having the lowest bid. I’m thinking about bidding on a Vespa myself. It’d be perfect for taking my daughter to and from school every day, and much cheaper on gas!   There’s a new winner every day so think I’ll go place my bid, wish me luck!

Online Soap Opera

Okay, I have to admit, I do watch soap operas during the day.  I don’t watch every day, no need to, although I do Tivo The Young and Restless, my favorite.  I even got my mother-in-law hooked on it about 12 years ago, gives her something to do everyday!

Now I’ve run across an online soap opera in written form.  Occasionally the site will also include video and even voice overs. It’s all about 4 strong, professional women who are also into fashion and style. It’s a unique site that follows the 4 women, Gabby, Liv, Shannon and Raqui in their daily lives. It’s set up sort of in blog format and allows readers to submit their thoughts and ideas as well as purchase clothing and accessories that the women have in their own closets. I think that is kind of cool because I know when I see outfits I like on T.V. shows I find myself wondering where I could buy a similar outfit. This site gives me the chance to do exactly that.

The Grapevine Serial doesn’t just talk about fashion, they also discuss family, pets, healthy living and travel among other topics. As far as the shopping goes, they sell everything from shoes and clothing to the accessories, so you can actually get a complete outfit if you choose to do so.  This seems to me to be a very smart, contemporary site worth a visit.

6th Floor Museum

We had an interesting day yesterday.  It was my husband’s friend birthday, so we met him and his girlfriend down in the West End of Dallas for some lunch.  It was an absolutely beautiful day in Dallas, clear skies and in the low 70’s.  We found a local restaurant with a nice patio and sat outside in the sunshine enjoying a wonderful meal together.

After lunch we meandered around the area, unfortunately, most of the shops aren’t open on the weekends, something that really surprises me.  Eventually, we decided to walk a few blocks over to see The Grassy Knoll and visit the 6th Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza.  For anyone who doesn’t know, this is the building where Lea Harvey Oswald fired his shot from that killed President John F. Kennedy.

There is a fee to tour the museum, but it includes an audio tour.  The tour itself is very interesting and there is an eary feeling knowing you are standing in a place that had such a dramatic change on American history and even the World.  My 11 year old daughter felt the same way and I think it really gave her a good understanding of what was going on in our country during that time and why he was so valued as a President.

It took us a couple of hours to complete the tour and visit the gift shop before heading home.  A very nice way to spend a Saturday.
