Amazing!

A blogger friend of mine has given me the honor of this amazing award. Thank you very much Juliana that was very nice of you.

I believe in giving unto others, so I will pass this award on. There are so many amazing bloggers out there it is difficult to choose. So I am choosing those who continue to visit my site and on occasion at least will leave a comment or two which I very much appreciate. Today I choose valmg whose blogs I was recently introduced to and I really enjoy visiting, especially since she knows more than her hubby! (Don’t all wives?) I also want to pass this on to Robyn who has one of the best family blogs I know. Not to mention she is an awesome list keeper! Last but not least I pass this on to Leigh who tells us her true thoughts and shares her special moments with us.

Congratulation ladies, you deserve this award.

My Virtual Makeover

Have you ever wanted to have a makeover but weren’t sure what you wanted the end results to be? I go through this every time I even go to get a haircut. I’m always wondering what I would look like with a different hairstyle or hair color. It’s hard to look at magazines and hair style books and figure out if a particular style would look good on me or even work with my hair.

This afternoon I decided to try doing a virtual makeover. I uploaded a picture of myself and then my daughter and I played around with different hair styles, colors and highlights. This was a bit tough because the picture I uploaded showed my bangs which meant I had to choose a virtual style that had bangs. Other than that I was able to try out all sorts of new looks and colors. My daughter tended to like the oranges, she said she was trying to make me look 20 years younger! I said “no thanks!”. We finally settled on a style we could both agree on and then color and highlights. She went back and put in some lowlights too, very subtle.  I was a bit nervous at first because I thought we could only choose from the celebrity hairstyles.  I soon found another button to click though that gave me 5 pages of hair style choices.  It was really neat to see all of them and convinced me to stick with shoulder length or shorter hair!

After completing the hair choices she did my makeup. She did lipstick with lipliner, a little eyeshadow and mascara. I was hoping there would be foundation to even out my skin tone, but there wasn’t. She did put some blush on my cheeks which helped.

This was a fun project, but I do wish I had started with a better picture of myself, maybe have my hair pulled back so I wouldn’t have to use particular styles.  There are many helpful hints before uploading your picture, so if you do this, follow the tips!

Shorkie Puppy

shorkie.jpgMy neighbor just brought home the cutest little puppy (besides Plinko of course).  It’s a little 2 month old Shorkie, half shit-zu half yorkie.  It’s just so cute, a bundle of fur.  I wasn’t actually sure what it was when I first saw him, thought it was maybe a guinea pig!  Got closer and realized it was the cutest dog, lots of fur and little short legs.  I think there are springs attached to the legs, he likes to bound in the grass which is very funny.

My neighbor said they haven’t had a dog in about 15 years, but when she saw our little Plinko she decided she needed a puppy too!  I wish her well, the first couple of months are not the easiest, but I’m sure she’s going to have one very cute dog.

The Blender

Two years ago my girlfriend gave me a smoothie maker for my birthday. I have used it - to make fruit smoothies for the kids. I really haven’t found another use for it although it does an excellent job of crushing ice. It made me think how good it would be at making mixed drinks that require a blender. Problem is, I’m no bartender, not even close. When I want a mixed drink I have to go out to a bar or restaurant to get one. Alcohol is expensive, but even more so when you have to have someone else make your drink for you. Not to mention, if I’m out having a drink, I can only have one or I will need a designated driver. I’d much rather relax at home and still be able to enjoy my drink.

Since I’ve never been to bartending school and I’ve never really payed too much attention to what in a drink, only to how it tastes, I decided that in order to take better advantage of my smoothie maker and put it to even better use, I would do some online research and figure out how to start making alcoholic beverages at home.

I managed to find a drink database with almost 9,000 drink recipes! If you don’t know how to make it you can probably find it here. Plus, if you come up with your own recipe you can list it here for others to find. I even noticed where people were looking for recipes of vodka drinks that they’d had at specific restaurants.

So, I think I’ll take advantage of it being the beginning of the weekend and get my smoothie maker out of the box and start mixing!
