Welcome Wagon

Welcome Wagon

The doorbell rang today and to my surprise, the Welcome Wagon lady was standing at my front door baring gifts.  Well, sort of.  It was a bag full of trinkets and a plastic water bottle from local businesses, mostly items that will go into the recycling bin, but it’s a nice gesture.  The one thing I really like that she brought was a yardstick.  Actually, I can’t even call it a yardstick because it’s 48 inches long (4 feet).  I like it though and can use it in my sewing.  I’ve all ready placed it next to my sewing machine.

My surprise is only because we’ve been here now for six months.  I guess they are a bit slow in welcoming people around here.  I guess it’s better late than never though and she was a very nice lady.

Autos

I think one of the best days is when you write out that last check for a car or truck payment.  It’s finally paid off and a sense of relief comes over you.  At least that’s how I felt when I wrote out that last check on our van payment six months ago.  Now I just need to deal with our other car.

For some reason we leased that car.  I hate auto leases.  I feel like I write that check every month and yet I’m getting no closer to owning it.  My husband and I have talked it over and decided to look for a used auto loan to buy out the remainder of the lease.   I’ll feel much better knowing our money is going toward the purchase.

Sunday Dinner

Dinner is in the oven.  It doesn’t really feel like a Sunday and I wish it was Saturday.  I had a difficult time motivating myself today.  I did get the yard mowed and worked in the kitchen some.  I also got some sewing finished, I really needed to do that.  I waited for my husband to either offer to cook or go get take out, but the offer never came.  So, I got dinner going in the oven.

We’re having baked pork chops and cheesy potatoes and a vegetable, I still need to decide which one.  I breaded the pork chops with a coating of corn meal, whole wheat flour, sage, onion powder, salt, sugar and paprika.  I dipped each chop in egg and then dropped them into a bag with all the breading, now they’re baking.  I think it will be a nice change of pace.

What are you having for Sunday dinner?  (or do you call it supper?)
