Holiday Shopping

Holiday Shopping

Have you started your holiday shopping yet? Do you have a list or do you just find things as you go? Are you an online shopper or do you prefer going to the store to touch and feel what you’re buying? Well, I have started, but I’m only slightly off the starting line. I usually have a list or I end up spending too much money. I shop quite a bit online (because I hate crowds) but I do still purchase things at the store too.

Last week I started shopping for ideas for what to buy my husband. He is so hard to shop for, I rarely ever feel like I am getting him something he actually wants. I don’t get too excited when he opens whatever gift I’m giving him because I usually know it’s not what he would’ve bought for himself. For his most recent birthday he told me exactly what he wanted and I went right online and bought it for him! He was so happy with it, it made me happy. I wish he would learn from that experience, if he tells me what he wants, he’ll probably get it!

Right now the only thing I’ve heard from him is perhaps a new dvd player/recorder. I went into a store last week and looked them over but there are so many to choose from. The prices were higher than I expected them to be too, I may want to check into a Luther Charge which is offered to active duty military as well as Federal civilian and municipal workers.  As I recall, we purchased our playstation on credit with a “same as cash” type program.

Whatever I decide to buy, I’m looking forward to the holidays and spending some relaxing time with family. How about you?

Nail Holes

I decided I’d looked at the nail-hole filled wall in  our family room long enough.  The previous owners of this house liked using big, giant, over sized nails to hang any and every picture or wall hanging that they hung.  This left big, giant, over sized nail holes all over the house.  This particular wall is about 10 feet wide and I just finished patching 12 different holes from one side to the other.  While I was at it I patched the adjoining archway where they dinged it in about 5 different places when they moved out.  One spot was about 2 inches long where there was no drywall left.

Next job, painting the wall.  The nail hole filler says it dries in an hour so I could paint it today if I choose to.  I just need to find some motivation!  I might just wait to paint it until tomorrow.   I’ll have to take a before and after picture!

New Floors

We need to put new carpeting in our dining room and three of the bedrooms including ours. I’ve started shopping around for flooring, I’ve even been shopping online. What concerns me about purchasing flooring online though is that some manufacturers void their warranty for online purchases. Not having a warranty would cause me to question purchasing flooring online. That is until now. iFLOOR has come forward with a rather remarkable press release.

iFLOOR, America’s largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases.

The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer’s warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. It is complimentary for every iFLOOR customer, and protects the buyer under the same terms as the original product warranty.

iFLOOR, Inc. CEO, Steve Simonson, came up with the program to combat “scare tactics” used by manufacturers of hardwood floors and laminate flooring. “Their idea is to discourage you from buying at a discount!” wrote Simonson in his blog “It’s About Flooring”. “This is not right! You deserve to save money! So we’re going to take care of this problem once and for all.”

And it would appear that federal law is on his side. Section 108 of the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Act, states that, “In general, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty.”

Under iFLOOR’s new warranty, a key provision allows for iFLOOR to “seek justice” on behalf of the customer in the event of legal action. According to Simonson, “I’m putting iFLOOR’s money where my mouth is.”

Is it Summer?

Okay, I know I’ve talked about this before, but come on!  It’s the middle of November and today it is supposed to be 85 degrees outside and it’s humid!  This is the Northern Hemisphere, it’s supposed to be Fall.  There should be a slight chill in the air.  The trees should not still be green!  I should not still be wearing shorts and flip-flops (although I do enjoy that part).

It’s not like I want it to snow or anything, I just want to not hear the air conditioner going and I want to not sweat when I go outside because it’s so humid.  We lived in Houston for 6 years and I don’t remember it being like this in November.  What is up with the weather lately?

How Often do You Weigh Yourself?

For many years, my husband and I did not own a scale to weigh ourselves. I felt strongly that I didn’t want it to be focus of mine, I was afraid I would obsess about it. When I entered my 40’s though, my body began changing in ways I didn’t care for. I was gaining weight.

I joined a gym and began working out and began an almost daily walking regimen. I was feeling better, but I had no way of marking my progress. So, I finally broke down and bought a scale. I allowed myself one weigh in per week and to my surprise, I found the weight coming off not to mention I was feeling better both physically and mentally.

For some people though, I know it’s not as easy as joining a gym. Some people have medical conditions that inhibit weight loss. For those people there are weight loss medications such as meridia to name just one of many. Now mind you, I don’t condone any weight loss medication without first seeing a doctor and discussing all the options with him or her. There are so many meds out there, each individual person must find the one that works in their own situation.

The problem is that there ARE so many weight loss medications out there and there is a glut of online pharmacies to get them from. We all know that not all of these internet pharmacies are reputable. For those people, I’m grateful that there is free information available that not only compares the different weight loss medications, but also the different online pharmacies. Compareop.com even has a list of blacklisted online pharmacies and tells why those pharmacies are blacklisted.

This site is definitely worth checking out before purchasing any weight loss medication. It is full of valuable information and product reviews. I feel fortunate that at this time in my life I don’t need this type (or any other) medication, but if I did it would be comforting to know there is a place to go that has done so much of the research for me.
