The Sewing Mom

My husband is completely and totally addicted to the fireplace. If the temperatures dip below 70 he lights the fireplace. In Illinois we also had a fire pit in the back yard which allowed him another means of feeding his addiction. Our last three homes have all had two fireplaces in them. Now, here in Texas where it rarely seems to dip below 70, we no longer have an outdoor fire pit and we are down to just one fireplace, in the family room. I found some great fun stocking stuffers today for him and my daughter both and one will surely fulfil his need for fire, the Ambient Fire dvd. He can play it on any T.V. in the house and hear the crackle of whichever fire he chooses.

I also got my daughter a Smencil pencil. These are great, made out of recycled newspaper and scented. Hers has the scent of cotton candy, it smells yummy! Lastly, at Vat19.com I found something that I know we’re going to miss now that we’ve moved to the south, Insta Snow fake snow powder. Simply add water and you get a quick eruption of snow. It works great for using in holiday decorations and crafts. My daughter and I both had a lot of fun making this and watching it poof up in the bowl!  We plan to make some little snowmen out of it to put up on the mantel.

I’ve been involved in a few memes on this blog, but have your ever wondered where the word “meme” came from? The word actually evolved from a Greek word, mimeme which means something imitated. Basically what it boils down to for bloggers is, someone writes some questions and tags other bloggers to answer them. They then repeat the questions, providing their own answers and tagging others. It continues on in this fashion for who knows how long with the goal of hopefully allowing fellow bloggers to get to know each other and possibly even meet new bloggers along the way. For this meme I was tagged by Lissie and to whom I apologize for taking my sweet time to do this.

So, today’s meme has the following questions:

1. How long have you been blogging?
2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?
3. Are You trying to make money online, or just doing it for fun?

And my answers are:

1. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve only been blogging since the beginning of July, 2007. I am what many would call a newbie.

2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?
My sister inspired me to start by blog, she is also my mentor along with so many others I have met while blogging.

3. Are you trying to make money online or just doing it for fun?
I am doing both. I really do enjoy blogging, it’s like keeping a diary and I have met some wonderful people online. And why not make some money while I’m doing something I enjoy?

4. Tell me 3 things you love about being online.
I love the instant access to friends and family as well as the ability to stay in touch. Email and instant messenger has made it so easy to keep up on a more daily basis with my family since we are spread around the country. I also appreciate how much faster we can find information by using the internet, I feel we have the ability to become more knowledgeable in different areas.

5. Tell me 3 things you struggle with in the online world.
I am technologically challenged, mainly because I am somewhat afraid of technology. Creating a new site makes me feel overwhelmed and I must rely on so many others for help. I would much rather feel independent than reliant, but that is not to be for me online. Next I would have to say I am not too good at marketing myself and my site. I need to improve in this area if I want to continue to earn money online. Finally, My name is Lynne and I am addicted to the internet!
