Quilting Around the World

I have met an interesting blogger who is a quilter, sewer, and stitcher. What I find most interesting about Fatiah is that she loves quilting and incorporates what she loves into her new love of blogging. She’s also a stitcher and posts pictures of items she’s made. I’m very impressed with how many craft projects she’s been able to complete, all while taking care of her husband and family. She even provides links to most of her projects and offers help to anyone who needs it.

If you’re a crafter of any sort you owe it to yourself to visit Fatiah.

Greeting Cards

When do you write out your holiday cards? Many years I’ve written mine out on Thanksgiving day, after we’ve eaten and I’m so full I don’t want to get off the couch. I figure it’s a good time to sit and I can work on my cards while sitting. This year though, I haven’t even purchased my holiday cards, so I guess I won’t be writing them tomorrow!

Why don’t I have my cards yet? I haven’t found any that I like. I have looked, but when I find some I like, I don’t like the price. A few years I have made my cards, didn’t feel like doing that this year. I made all of my greeting cards for a few years, not just the holiday cards, but birthday and anniversary cards as well. The biggest reason I did this was that I was having a difficult time finding cards at the store that I liked. If I liked the outside of the card, I didn’t like the sentiment inside or the other way around.

It’s even more difficult when my husband tries purchase Business Christmas Cards to send to clients. It’s not like he can make them. Well, I guess he could, but I don’t think his clients would not be too impressed. The past few years he has ordered cards from The Gallery Collection, they have a huge selection of business holiday cards and they can be personalized. This is the same company that has teamed up with Soldiers Angels by donating holiday cards for U.S. Troops.

Guess I better start looking again for my own cards to send or I need to go get supplies to make some. Happy Holidays!

Enchanted

My daughter and I just returned from seeing the new movie Enchanted and we really enjoyed it.  The beginning is animated and is over the top corny which made it funny.  The princess is looking for her prince of course!  She sings and all the forest animals talk and respond to her.  She finally meets her prince who has an evil step-mother who tosses her into the real world where, according to her, there are never any happy endings!  The Prince of course has to jump to her rescue and the remainder of the story takes place in the real world.  It’s really pretty fun and very creative.  We both enjoyed it quite a bit.

The only negative comment I would have is that the very end got a bit lame.  The evil step-mother becomes a dragon.  I’m still not sure why she did this or if she really was a dragon.  The princess then ends up saving her new prince, a member of the real world.  That got a little silly, but we still had fun.  I would watch it again.

Plinko

It has been a couple of months since Plinko last saw the vet. She has grown so much it’s unbelievable. She currently weighs in at 23 pounds and is about 13-14 inches tall. She’s really very strong. One of her favorite games is tug of war and she can really tug! The muscles in her legs are very visible and she just looks so strong. She loves to run and climb, we’ve always said she is part mountain goat! She recently learned that she has the ability to jump up on the furniture and can now even jump onto my daughter’s bed. This used to be where my daughter could store her stuffed animals to keep them away from Plinko, this is true no longer!

Plinko will be turning 6 months old in about a week. I’ve been trying to decide when the best time to have her spayed would be. I did some research with a pet advisor and learned that it should be done just before or 3 months after she has her first season. Well, I have no idea when her first season will be, so I think I’m going with the strategy of anytime after 5 months of age. Probably the biggest risk of having her spayed is that she will gain weight. But, that risk far outweighs the consequence of not having her spayed.

I think I’ll give the vet a call and schedule the appointment.

Dinner

I made dinner for just my daughter and myself last night and we both really enjoyed it.  It’s not easy cooking for just the two of us and making something that I know she will eat.  She’s not overly picky, but, she is still a kid.  I also didn’t want to cook something that would result in a lot of leftovers with Thanksgiving coming up.  I need to keep my refrigerator cleaned out and ready to turkey day leftovers!  So, here’s what I made last night.

Zucchini Tortellini

1 pkg. refrigerated tortellini

1/4 c. chopped onion

2 T olive oil

1 medium zucchini cut in half lengthwise and then sliced

1/2 c. mozzarella cheese

1/2 c. milk

salt and pepper to taste

Cook tortellini in boiling water 8-10 minutes.  While tortellini is cooking, saute onion and zucchini in olive oil in large skillet.  Add tortellini, milk, cheese, salt & pepper.  Heat through 1-2 minutes. Serve.
