Have you decorated for the holidays? I haven’t even started, although I’ve wanted to for the last several days. My husband has been out of town so he wasn’t here to put the tree up. That’s always the first thing to go up before any decorations can go anywhere else.
Moving into a new house means figuring out where everything will go. We’ve been discussing the positioning of the tree for weeks and we can’t seem to agree on where it should go. We at least agree that it will be in the family room, we just can’t decide which end of the family room. My husband would like to just slightly move furniture and squeeze the tree into a corner. I am afraid putting it in that particular corner will block the T.V. I would like to rearrange the furniture and put the tree in the opposite corner from where my husband wants it. In the end, I’ll probably have to let him try it his way and then he can decide if he likes it or not.
I am looking forward to seeing this house all decorated. Our last house we had to keep the tree in the entry way because our tree is 10 feet tall and that was the only place it would fit. We bought the tree when we had a house with a family room and a two story ceiling. The tree looked beautiful in that house. Since then it’s looked huge. I think it will be okay now, although we may have trouble putting the tree topper on it.
We did go out last Saturday shopping for a new tree. We looked at both pre-lit on regular artificial trees. I can’t get over how expensive they are. The trees we looked at were all on sale, but even on sale, they were pricey. I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on a tree. We decided to use our tree for another year and hopefully we’ll find one at an even bigger discount before the season is over that we can use next year.
So tomorrow our plan is to decorate. My husband has the day off and it will be a good day to spend together. My daughter loves decorating the tree, so if he can get it put together and placed in the family room we can get it decorated. While he’s putting the tree together I can work on decorating the mantel. Then, while my daughter & I are decorating the tree, he can work on putting the lights outside. It all sounds so simple, I hope we can get it all done tomorrow and sit back and enjoy it.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and for those of you outside of the U.S. who don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you’ve had a wonderful day with family and friends.
We got up this morning with the intent of having an early turkey dinner at home and then heading across town to visit some friends for the afternoon. Once I got started in the kitchen though, I knew I wasn’t going to want to get in the car later in the day and go visiting. I really wanted to stay home and spend the day relaxing with my husband and daughter. So, while I was preparing the turkey to be put in the oven I told my husband that maybe we should just stay home and invite his friend and his friend’s girlffriend over for dinner. He thought that was a good idea and so, that’s we did.
I roasted a 14 lb turkey with stuffing. My side dishes were mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potato casserole, green been casserole, cranberry sauce and rolls. For dessert we had pumpkin and apple pies as well as ice cream. It’s a good thing we invited friends because even with the two extra people we have a ton of leftovers. We each ate a full plate full of food followed by coffee and pie. We ate dinner almost five hours ago and I am still full. I would love to have gone for a walk, and I should have gone for a walk. Unfortunately, it finally got cold here in Dallas and it’s very windy, not too conducive to a nice after dinner walk.
If we lived in Florida we would have a better chance of having the perfect weather for walking. Maybe next year we’ll just plan on spending our holiday in Florida next year. I’d really enjoy visiting St. Augustine, Florida, one of the oldest cities in the U.S. There are a number of art galleries in St. Augustine with art from local artisans. My husband and I have a small collection of artwork, particularly water colors, that we like to collect from places we visit. The St. Augustine Artwalk would be a perfect activity for us. It’s held beginning the first Friday of the month, each month and is called the First Friday Weekend Artwalk .
This would be perfect. We could eat our big meal and then go walking, exploring all the different types of art. Everything from paintings and photography to music can be found at the Artwalk. I think it would really be a lot of fun. If we did get tired of walking there are even trolley tours of the area. Yes, I’m thinking Florida is where we’ll be this time next year.
