Cruises

Have you ever been on a cruise? Do you have a desire to go on a cruise? If you’ve been on a cruise, where did you go and what was your favorite part of the cruise?

I personally prefer to stay on dry land, but of all the cruises available, there is one I would love to take and that would be a cruise to Alaska. I’ve always thought it would be an excellent way to see Alaska, combining it with an inland tour. I have told my husband that I would like to do this as a 25th wedding anniversary celebration. Wouldn’t that be an amazing way to celebrate?

Let me know what you liked about your cruise experience! :-D

My Goat

I’ve been telling you about my goat….er, I mean my dog, Plinko.  This little dog will eat just about anything.  Her favorite thing is mulch, which wouldn’t be bad except for the mess it makes inside the house.  Today she ate her first Christmas tree ornament.  Thankfully she chose a fabric ornament, and I got it away from her before she could swallow any of it.  Yesterday she tried to eat styrofoam that fell out of a carton.  She snatches stuff so fast you can’t catch her.  Then she turns it into a game of chase to get it away from her.  She’s quite clever.

Her eating habits aren’t the only reason we think she’s part goat.  She also loves to climb.  When she was tiny she would climb the landscaping rocks in the backyard.  Of course she likes to climb on furniture and recently figured out that she was capable of jumping onto our beds.  She’s even been known to climb up onto the ledge of the whirlpool tub, that’s quite a trick if you could see that tub!

Her latest feat is to climb onto the patio furniture and then onto the ice chest.  From that vantage point, about 3 feet above the ground, she is able to sit and stare at me through the family room window.  It’s a bit odd to get that feeling you’re being watched, look up, and see her staring at me!

My daughter just informed me that Plinko came to the back door with something in her mouth that she wanted to bring inside.  Fortunately my daughter saw that whatever was in her mouth was still moving, it had legs and antennae.  My husband just informed us that it was the dead mouse, the same dead mouse she had a couple of weeks ago, EEWWW!

Online Coupons

I’m really making progress on my holiday shopping! I need to buy my husband’s gift and a couple of late additions to my daughter’s list, but otherwise, I’m pretty much done. I think I’ve been able to use online coupons for just about all of my purchases too! That means I’m spending less money and getting better deals.

I plan to use Best Buy coupon codes to buy his gift online. I’ve also found shoes.com deals to get those purple shoes my daughter’s been wanting! It feels so good to be just about done and to have gotten good deals on all the items I’ve purchased!

How about you, is your shopping list almost complete?

PTA - Parent Teacher Organization

Is there a PTA at your child’s school?  Are you a member?  Are you involved?

My daughter’s school does a lot of fund raising for the school as well as for the PTA.  I tend to purchase things through the fund raisers as I know it will benefit her school.  Her building is new, this is its second year to be open, so I know they can used things like library books, supplies, etc.  and I don’t mind helping with those things.

As the school coordinator for Destination Imagination I find it necessary to look at various ways we can get money to support our two teams.  The school itself has put up the money to register the teams with the National DI organization as well as paying the Regional tournament fees for both teams.  That has been a huge help.  Our teams will have to spend there own money on supplies to make their costumes, props and sets.  Each team has a maximum spending level of $125 per team, so that’s not too bad.  Many times they don’t come close to spending there maximum.

I found out about a festival being sponsored by the Regional DI that our teams can attend in January.  It is a place they can go and work on Instant Challenges and they will receive feedback on ways they can improve.  Each team must do an Instant Challenge, which is basically improv, when the attend a tournament in addition to their regular challenge.  This festival is an excellent learning opportunity.

This morning I requested monetary assistance in the amount of $30 from the school’s PTA.  I’m somewhat disheartened to learn that the organization sets its budget at the beginning of the school year and since DI did not exist at the school until October, there was no budget for DI included.

The PTA president did say they are having a board meeting this month and they could possibly agree to an amendment to their budget.  I hope this happens, it would be great to not have to ask the kids and parents for the money, even though it isn’t that much.  So, I will be keeping my fingers crossed that the PTA will come through for our teams.
