Well, my mom and sister came, conquered and left! They arrived last Friday night after driving from Eastern Kentucky. They stayed with me until Tuesday and we had such fun while they were here. My mom is a quilter and my sister is a sewer who is currently working on making bags and purses. I do pretty much the same thing although I hadn’t done any sewing of any kind for months, I just wasn’t feeling very motivated. That is until they came.
We spent one afternoon at a local quilt shop which is usually just the motivation I need to get sewing. I always find such beautiful fabrics at quilt shops and the really good shops tend to have great kits and patterns for not just quilts, but for bags and other types of fabric crafts as well. I wound up purchasing the fabrics and pattern to make a bag, I posted that picture earlier, and I also bought fabrics to make two different advent calendars. One of the calendars I completed yesterday and posted that picture, the other one I just finished cutting out and hope to have it sewn together later today.
I find sewing to be very therapeutic and since my guests left on Tuesday the sewing is keeping me very busy so that I don’t find myself missing them constantly. It doesn’t help that my husband is currently in Budapest, Hungary, so it’s even more quiet around here!
When my mom & sister left, they were headed for Arizona. My mom winters there and my sister wanted to drive with her. None of us have even seen my mom’s place there and she’s had it for about 3 years now. They arrived at their destination yesterday. I talked to my sister this morning and she is worn out from all the driving. She said she didn’t sleep well last night either because she needs a t.v. on to sleep and my mom & aunt don’t have t.v. in their place. They don’t want to bother installing it since they’re only there a few months out of the year. I told my sister that she needs to use my mom’s computer tonight to watch t.v. on. She has National broadband access on it so she should be able to get some network television shows to watch.
Today they were planning on driving to Mexico, just across the border, for the day. I think my sister may have been somewhat nervous about that! She loves seeing new places, but she gets nervous about travelling to places she’s never been. She said that tomorrow they may even drive over to San Diego, a mere 4 hours away. I don’t know if I’d want to get back into the car after the drive they just made!
Saturday my sister, who is afraid of flying, has to go to Phoenix to fly home. It’s too bad they don’t have some time to spend in Phoenix, there is really so much to do there. I’d love to get back up to Sedona, it’s such a beautiful, peaceful place. She is definitely nervous about the flying part of her trip. It’s not the actual flying that bothers her so much as the going through security, checking in, luggage requirements, etc. She’s so afraid that she’s going to do something wrong, it stresses her out.
She’s actually very good at making travel plans, she does a lot of that for the chapter of the Harley Davidson club they belong too. They do a lot of weekend rides with their chapter and stay overnight in various hotels. Living in Kentucky, they have a lot of beautiful roads to ride. When it came time to make her airline reservation though she had me do it. It just made her too nervous. I have her booked on a flight connecting in Cincinnati, I just have to hope there isn’t bad weather this weekend in that area. She gives herself migraines when she stresses and that can really be tough to fly when you’re suffering from a bad headache.
I think one of her favorite trips was when she and her son joined us and the rest of the family up in Niagara Fall, Canada. She drove all the way so she never had to think about flying, mush less stressful. I had used a Canada Hotel Guide to book our rooms and so we knew exactly where we were going to be staying. We all had so much fun in the four days we were there, I’d love to do that trip again. We all live in different states, so it’s not easy getting us all together.
