Littlest Pet Shop

When I bought my new video camera a little over a year ago, it was just before Christmas. My daughter was 10 at the time and she had place a request for a camera on her Santa list that year. I really didn’t want to purchase a cheap camera and then purchase a higher end one for myself, so my daughter and I had a discussion about video cameras. I even had her go camera shopping with me so she could see what was available. In the end, I decided I would buy one camera and we would share it. Following that decision, my daughter and I had another discussion about the care of the camera. And yes, I DID buy the extended warranty, it would cover it if the camera were to be dropped or stepped on, or anything else. Thankfully, that hasn’t happened.

My daughter has probably wound up using the camera much more than I have. I use it at events like band concerts, she uses it to make videos to send back to her friends in Illinois. It’s a way for her to stay connected. Not too long ago, I registered for a YouTube account and this opened up a whole new world. While I don’t necessarily want her watching any old video on that site, it is a way for her to upload her own videos and share with friends, rather than having to burn dvd’s and mail them. In other words, it’s cost effective.

Of all the videos I’ve created and loaded on YouTube, her videos are the ones that get all the views! I have to tell you, I have difficulty watching her videos, they’re long and I must say, somewhat boring, but for those in the tween scene, I guess they’re fun! I’ve also discovered through YouTube that this tendency to make videos is prevalent, especially with kids who enjoy playing with Littlest Pet Shop toys. So, I’ve decided to share one of her videos that she and a friend made over the weekend. Consider this your warning though, unless you are younger than say, 13, you may find this excruciatingly boring to watch, so don’t feel obligated to click the play button. However, if you have kids, and they are in need of some entertainment, they might find this fun.

Car Troubles

I went out in the garage this morning to start the car so I could take my daughter to school and I got a bit nervous. I got in the car, put the key in the ignition and started it up. It started okay, but then it sounded like it was going to die. I gave it a little more gas but it kept idling so slowly that it was shaking.

Mind you, we have a very nice car, one that should never need service, other than an oil change, and even that is required only once every 12,000 miles. It’s also the kind of car that if something should go wrong, it’s going to be very costly. So, to say my nerves started to shake along with the car, is putting it lightly. I really do hate car troubles. I had a vision of having to ride our little electric scooters across the main road to get my daughter to school! Well, then reality set in and I knew we’d have to walk since the scooters are not street legal.

I really do enjoy our car and, because it’s a convertible, it’s truly a pleasure car now that we’re in the south and can ride with the top down more frequently. The downside, like a said before, is that when something does go wrong, it can be, and usually is, very expensive. We even bought this car brand new. We had considered used cars and I know we could’ve spent less money going used, but decided to go new because of the warranty. Everything, including oil changes and wiper blades, is included in the warranty. If I recall, the warranty is for three years, so I guess if something does go wrong, it needs to happen NOW!

I’m hoping it was a one time thing this morning, it didn’t do it anymore the rest of the day.   My husband has to drive it tomorrow and leave me the van, I have to take the puppy to the vet.  We’ll see what it does to him.

The Aroma of Crockpot Cooking

I am making one of my favorite things today, ribs, and I opted to put them in the crockpot.  I turned the pot on at 10 this morning and the aroma of those ribs is really starting to permeate every nook and cranny of this house!  My husband had better not be late from work tonight because I’m going to start eating as soon as they’re ready.  There is no way I can sit here smelling this wonderful smell all day and have to postpone eating them!

 Here’s my recipe:

31/2 pounds pork loin back ribs

1/2 c packed brown sugar

1/2 tsp. black pepper

3 T liquid smoke

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 tsp. salt

1 medium onion, sliced

1/2 c. cola

1 1/2 cups barbeque sauce

  1. Spray inside of large crockpot with cooking spray.
  2. Remove inner skin from ribs.  Mix brown sugar, pepper, salt, garlic and liquid smoke.  Cut ribs into about 4-5 inch pieces and rub mixture into ribs.  Layer the ribs and onions in the slow cooker.  Pour the cola over the ribs.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until ribs are tender. (mine usually fall off the bone).  Remove the ribs from the cooker. Drain liquid.
  4. Pour bbq sauce into shallow bowl.  Dip ribs into sauce.  Place the ribs back into the slow cooker, pouring remaining sauce over the ribs.  Cover and cook on low 1 hour.

I’m making potato salad to go with mine and probably some corn.  Enjoy!

Member of the Technology Challenged

There are days when I feel like I am a somewhat intelligent, organized, individual. Then there are other days, when I can’t figure out what I’m doing. Those days usually tend to occur when I’m dealing with anything that has to do with technology.

We have a fully wireless house, makes me feel current, up-to-date, smart. Just don’t let anything go wrong, no error messages, no downtime. I can’t deal with it, I don’t know what to do. We have all sorts of technology in our home, TV, HD, video cameras, digital cameras, wireless routers, wireless mice. Just don’t let anything go wrong, other than changing a battery, I don’t know how to fix any of it.

We even have multiple MP3 players in our house. My daughter and I both have IPod Nanos, although hers is not the same generation as mine which means we can’t share files or most hardware. My husband has a couple of different MP3’s, I wouldn’t have a clue how they work. To use my Nano, my daughter does most of my downloads for me, I’m too easily frustrated. The music I have on my Nano is all from cd’s that I own. I have downloaded a few songs from the internet, but I’m not comfortable with that process, so tend to shy away from it. My daughter on the other hand seems to be able to handle both methods of getting music on her Nano. In fact, she asked for an ITunes gift card for Christmas (and got it!).

To make things even easier to stream music online we could even download a music player toolbar. For ease of use, maybe this is what I probably need to do!
