Blog Traffic

posted in blogging |

I made a goal for myself that in 2008 I would work very hard on increasing traffic to my blogs. There are numerous ways to do this, and I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I know all there is to know. I’m a very new blogger, learning my way through the blogosphere, but one thing I am doing is visiting many other sites, reading, leaving comments where appropriate and hoping that when and if those bloggers come visit my site, I will have written something that they will not only be interested in reading, but will entice them to come back as repeat visitors.

Something I definitely do NOT want to do is annoy any of my readers. We all know what it’s like to surf the web and get those annoying pop-ups. If they weren’t annoying, why would we all go to such great lengths to use pop-up blockers? I have been surprised as I have been surfing through blogs over the last few days that I have even run across a few personal blogs that have had pop ups on them. Now, I realize that many of us want to monetize our sites, but monetize at the expense of our readers? That is not something I want to do.

I realize it is every bloggers right to choose if and how they will earn money on their blog. I have to say though, when I run across a blog that has a pop up, the chances of my revisiting that blog are minimized. Pay Per Play Ads seem to be different. These are strictly 5 second audio ads, nothing visual. This could be a win for both the blog publisher and the blog visitor. Nothing has to be clicked on for the publisher to earn money and the visitor isn’t bombarded with visual ads. Something I will have to think about.

How would you feel about visiting a site with audio only ads? Leave me a comment, I’d really like to hear from you.

The only problem with that is people are not going to want to visit your web site if they are in public places or at work. I’m not sure how much traffic you would actually lose - it might not be much. For me personally, I hate when there’s audio on web sites that I visit. I hate the pop ups as well. So far the best money making blogging techniques are the paid advertisements, I think, because it’s really easy to not pay attention to them if you don’t want to.

Bobbi - Yep, you’re right. I’m leaning away from using the audio ads. I’m trying hard to build traffic, not chase it away!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. :-D

Forest - There’s some interesting discussion going on over at the PPP forum about this audio ad company. You may want to check it out and then decide. I’m sort of leaning away from it, but still haven’t completely made up my mind.

Glad to see you back by the way, I’ve missed your posts on your site!

I wouldn’t come back to a blog that had audio ads. I used to have music playing on my blog but then I realized how annoying it was when I’d be sitting down accessing a blog really late at night or really early in the morning (that’s when I mostly have time) and have sound blaring out of my computer and waking everyone up. That or scaring me half to death and making me jump a mile high. lol

Sasha - I think I agree with you on not going back to sites with audio ads. I don’t enjoy visiting sites that have anything that starts playing automatically, it bogs down my computer and I tend to not go back. I’m thinking I won’t be going the route of adding audio ads to my site.
