Plinko Has Surgery

posted in Puppy News |

Plinko

This was a trying day. This morning I took our puppy Plinko to the vet to have her spayed. I realize this is a very common and necessary procedure, but when it’s just a little puppy it’s hard to leave them for something as major as surgery, no matter what the reason. But I did it.

My daughter & I picked Plinko up about 5:30 this afternoon and that little dog looks so miserable it’s breaking my heart! I know she is completely drugged up and we gave her another dose of her pain medication about an hour ago, but she looks so sad! She’s such a people dog and loves to snuggle up with us. She’s feeling so miserable though she just keeps going back to her crate and crawling in to her bed. We’ve managed to get her outside twice since bringing her home so she could go potty, but that’s it.

I know that rest is really the best thing, so we just keep comforting her and making sure she’s comfortable. That’s the only thing we can do right now. I have enough pain meds to give her for the next 5 days and then her stitches will come out next week. I will certainly be glad when she gets back to feeling like her spunky self. Right now I’m having all sorts of guilty feelings, even though I know it’s something that had to be done. It’s just that how do I tell those soft little brown eyes that it was for her own good, in a way that she can understand?

Plinko is doing so much better today. She has been up and around and spent quite a bit of time outside today. She’s on her second big nap of the day. I’m just keeping an eye on her so she doesn’t start chewing on her stitches.

I was worried about that with Wasatch last week–but honestly–he’s never once even acted like he had surgery! I wouldn’t have minded a little tranquilization to bring his “excitement” down. He gets his stitches out tomorrow. Kisses to my Plinko Puppy!

Robyn - Plinko did much better today, although she wasn’t her normal spazzy self, but still, I could tell she felt better. I’m more worried now about her jumping up & down on stuff and possible ripping those stitches! At least we’ve got it done. :-D

Poor baby. I had one dog who came out of her spaying like nothing happened and she was about 10-15 lbs. The other one came out like yours, drugged up, goes to her bed to sleep and is just lithless. She was around 25 lbs maybe its been so long ago. I think the bigger they are the worse it hurts.

I guess the bigger they are maybe the more anesthetic they have to have so it’s harder to recover. She’s been fine as long as we remember to give her the pain pills!
