Touring the United States
Summer before last we took a family vacation to South Dakota. We drove our full size conversion van from Chicago to Rapid City, [tag]South Dakota[/tag], a beautiful drive. We toured the entire surrounding area including The Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and even on into Wyoming to see Devils Tower. It’s absolutely beautiful country and I would go back in a heart beat.
While we were there, my cousins, who live in Washington State, rode their Harley’s down and met us at Mt. Rushmore. I loved hearing about their ride and they really enjoyed all of the narrow winding roads around the Mt. Rushmore area. Besides my cousins, we saw many other bikers enjoying the scenery and their rides. We were there during July, a few weeks before the big annual bike rally in Sturgis, just outside of Rapid City.
My brother-in-law as been to that huge bike rally. He and a friend trailered their bikes from Eastern Kentucky a few years ago and went to the rally. We tried to get them to meet us up there again, but he couldn’t bring himself to travel so far again. I can’t say that I blame him, that’s a long haul from their house. I think he and my sister would be much more likely to do [tag]motorcycle touring[/tag] and vacations in Florida because it’s so much closer and now, they can visit our niece who just moved to Jacksonville. If they wanted to, they could go so far as to use a service to transport their bikes ahead of them so they’d be there, available for them to ride. Although, being a Harley owner, I’m not sure they’d entrust their bikes to just anyone!
Who knows, maybe we’ll just have to plan a big family vacation to [tag]Florida[/tag] this summer and we can all meet up there. I know my daughter would love going to the beaches and it would be fun to see everyone.
