I love that I have such a crafty family. It’s doesn’t only happen by birth either. Those who marry in to our family must be crafty too. If they’re not, they soon become crafty! I have a brother-in-law who can do beautiful woodwork, most of which he learned many years ago in woodshop class in high school. I have a husband who can paint, although I’ve only been able to get him to paint some flower power scenes in my daughter’s bedroom, he does wonderful work. His dad was an artist and had done several murals in my previous home and many other places.
My nephew got married several years ago and he too married a super crafty person. She is definitely a member of a crafting team and is currently working on several projects to sell, along with the rest of us. This is one of the projects she’s been working on, a combination of sewing and fabric painting. I think they’re really cool!
Do you know anyone who has received any kind of court settlement? I know a few people, including my brother-in-law who, many years ago, was involved in a bar brawl and had a broken bottle smashed over his head causing injuries. Although, I do believe his brain has never operated at full capacity, he was awarded Structured Settlement Payments by the court.
By receiving a structured settlement, he was able to do some things he’d never been able to do before, including purchasing a vehicle for himself. He is my age and to my knowledge has never held a regular, every day job, so this settlement was a windfall for him. It allowed him to take advantage of opportunities that he otherwise wouldn’t have had, including some of the medical expenses he incurred after getting hit with the glass bottle.
I only wish he had put some of that money to work for him to make it last longer. I realize it’s been so long ago now that there is little chance he would have any of it left now anyway, but it’s nice to dream.
I’m really not sure what is going on, but today is the 6th day in a row of waking up with a severe sinus headache. The only day I woke up feeling okay was yesterday and I can’t figure out what was different about yesterday, I wish I could. I’m thinking that it is being brought on by the dryness of the air. It was so cold most of last week that our heater was running quite a bit and I know that tends to blow nothing but very dry air throughout the house. It’s been warmer this week and the heater usually only kicks on in the morning, then I don’t hear it the rest of the day. It has still be windy outside though, so maybe that’s contributing.
I wish I knew what was causing it so I could make it stop. I don’t think it’s allergies because my eyes don’t seem to be affected in any way. It’s just the sinus pressure and pain that I’m getting. Do you ever get like this?
A little over a year ago, I bought a new digital video camera so that I’d be prepared to take video of my daughter’s school, band and sports functions. I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss an event and wanted to be able to share those same events with friends and family who aren’t able to attend. It has proven to come in quite handy. It’s also proven to be quite funny. This past summer I filmed my daughter and her friend when they attended an “American Idol” day camp. The last day of camp, the campers performed and so I filmed it. It was so funny to watch the playback, there were things going on that we maybe didn’t notice the first time. I love watching kids perform!
With the advent of the internet and reality t.v., home videos have become a huge source of public entertainment. One of my daughter’s favorite shows is one that shows people in silly situations or having funny, non-injuring accidents. She’s been watching the show for years and whenever I need a good laugh, I watch it too. It really brings home the point that it can be a good idea to always have your video camera handy, you just never know when something funny and entertaining will happen right in front of you!
Now there is a new opportunity to create online video content that may be used in a T.V. show, it’s called YawpBox and the show is hosted by Lex and Terry. If you like creating videos and enjoy it when tons of people view it, this is the site for you. Take the Lex & Terry challenge which directs people to create video content for specific categories. There is a wide range of categories, you may find something for which you all ready have a video, or you can create something new. Submit video to the challenge and it may just end up on T.V.!
This is right up my daughter’s ally, she’s always creating unique video and is very creative with it. I know that she’ll be checking it out.
I have finally started a new sewing project. I’m making a bag by using fabric charms (5 inch square pieces of fabric). This is the second bag of this style I’ve made. The first came together fairly quickly, no thanks to the horrible directions that came with the pattern. I just spent almost an hour laying out charms to come up with a set of 17 squares that I like together. I also had to make sure that I had enough coordinating fabric to for the back of the bag and lining. I’ve ironed all the fabric, laid out the front of the bag and now am ready to begin sewing. I want to rewrite the directions as I go, so that will slow me down a bit, but it shouldn’t be too long before I have a finished bag.
This is a picture of the fabric charms I have laid out, the beginning of the bag.
With the price of beef going up and up, I tend to cook a lot of chicken in my kitchen. Unfortunately, it’s become quite boring and no matter how I try to prepare it, it comes out tasteless and dull. I’ve microwaved it, boiled it, and even pressed it. It doesn’t matter what I do to it, even grilling chicken at home can’t compare to the citrus marinated flame-grilled chicken of El Pollo Loco.
