Graduation Gift

Graduation Gift

My 6th grade daughter came up with registration information last week for Junior High. I am stunned by the fact that she is not only almost finished with Elementary school, but in two years she’ll be a Freshman in High School! Let’s not even talk about the fact that in 6 years, she’ll be graduating from High School.

Believe it or not, I all ready have an idea of what I would like to give her for a graduation gift. She has a dream of visiting Africa, and I’d like to help her realize that dream. When I was her age, my parents lived overseas, and I was fortunate enough to get to travel with them many times. One of those trips was a photo safari in Kenya. I would love to be able to do that again, this time with my husband and daughter. It is the most amazing place.

I realize that I need to not only be saving for college, but I need to be saving for this trip as well. I’ve been checking prices on flights to Egypt and Kenya both. I always wanted to go visit the Great Pyramid and as much as we love history, I know my family would enjoy this too. One of my favorite times to watch National Geographic is when they’re showing Egypt and all of it’s many treasures.

I’ll definitely be looking into package deals. While I’m beginning to plan this trip now, I also know that I have to take into account inflation. I feel that as long as I have a savings plan in place, I’ll get there. This is something that I really want to do, a trip of a lifetime. Plus, if I sell my hand made fabric bags like I plan to, that money can help too!

Blogger Craft Club

Last week I posted a picture of my fabric jelly roll that I was using to make a bag. I went to the local quilt shop this past Tuesday and during a three hour class, managed to make most of the bag. I finally got around to sewing on the second handle last night and got the decorative buttons sewn on this morning. I am very excited about this bag and wanted to post it’s completed picture here for the Blogger Craft Club to show I have been working!

Fact is, I enjoyed making this bag so much that I’ve started a second one last night out of similar fabrics.

By the way, if you’re interested in purchasing this bag (or others I have made), be sure to check out my new WP Auction widget in my right sidebar.
