Snow in Big D

Snow in Big D

I was busy sewing last night when my daughter came in to tell me it was snowing. Now, we moved from Chicago not even a year ago, and the thought of snow in Dallas never really occurred to me. Yes, I do know it snows every once in a blue moon, but come on, we just left the midwest, I thought she meant there were flakes in the air. I certainly didn’t expect it to stick! But stick it did. We received between 2-3 inches overnight, I was completely surprised!

These are a few shots I took last night while it was coming down, around 9 P.M.

This is looking out over our front patio into the front yard.

This is looking our over our swimming pool. No, here in the south, pools don’t close or even get covered.

Oh my gosh!!! That’s so funny! The left over “wet” is just getting to us in VA today. I’m glad it’s not snow. My flowers are just starting to stick their little heads up out of the ground. I’m hoping we don’t get another blast of cold so I can enjoy them this spring. Wishing you warmer days ahead

Wow! This is fabulous! Last time it snowed (properly) in Johannesburg, I was 8 years old - it was 1981!

When I came here to Montreal from London, England I really didn’t realize how much snow this place gets.

I think it’s record year too.

I can’t believe that’s Dallas. We are down in here in Houston and my kids would D-I-E for some snow…even flurries.

Wow! This reminds me of my first week living in Dallas (not that I live there now… ironically I live in Canada where snow in March is terribly normal!) I moved to Dallas in October of 1996 and it snowed that first week. I was so surprised!

I am so dang jealous that you got snow!!! I was at the Target in Allen today (wasn’t intending to go there) and I thought of you and I knew after you read my post that you would snicker :) I even took a picture of the snow SINCE I didn’t even get one flake!!!!!! One of my friends lives on the West Plano and she got lots of it.

    Oh well!

I had to do a double take when I saw “Snow in Big D”. I’m also in Dallas and took similar pictures of our eerie “snow storm”. I was pretty sad to see it gone within hours of the sun coming up.

Hey, you got our snow! Here in Lansing, Michigan we were predicted to get 2-4 inches overnight, and instead we got none. But that’s okay, you can have it :)

Corrin - I know, funny thing is, my husband wanted to leave Chicago because of the snow! That’ll teach him to make us pick up and move!

Mary, Kathy, & Karen - We’re glad it was only a couple of inches of snow. The schools didn’t close or even start late which was surprising. The roads were all very icy, a lot of accidents. My normal two minute drive to take my daughter to school took us 15. The daffodils that were all blooming from all our recent warm weather were all leaning over yesterday, I hope they can recover, they were so pretty.

Kristen - We lived in Houston (Spring) for 6 years. We used to get the ice storms and it would be so cold. Nobody ever believed us!

Ellen - I’m glad you at least got to see the snow in person, not just on the news. Also glad you didn’t come to Allen earlier, there were so many accidents on the roads.

Wendy - This was a nice snow to experience! It came and it went, no shoveling involved.

I know 2-3 inches isn’t much, but yes, for Dallas it was really something! We just moved from Chicago and it’s nice to not have to shovel our way out.

Monique- It was sad to see the snow disappear so quickly. I was glad that my daughter’s school principal allowed them all to take an early morning recess and they got to play in it. It was pretty much gone by the time they ended the school day.

I think you might be right about a record setting year for snowfall. We picked the right year to move away from Chicago, they’ve been inundated with snow this year.

Robyn - I know, I know, I’ve been admiring your snowy pictures and then, WHAM! we got our own! It was crazy! (I’m just happy there was no shoveling involved!)

Over here in the FW side of DFW we got well under one inch, but I was surprised that it stuck here either. Interestingly enough, we have ANOTHER chance of snow tomorrow night!
