Are You an Emotional Eater?

Are You an Emotional Eater?

When I’m stressed, I eat. Do you?

This week has been so exhausting and stressful, just getting ready for our Destination Imagination tournament today. I found myself eating things that I normally wouldn’t eat.

Due to my daughter’s birthday celebration last weekend, we had junk food in the house that normally isn’t here: Cheetos, potato chips, brownies, cake, etc. I found myself getting these things out of the pantry, especially in the evenings when I was so tired and yet, still had so much to get done. It was my way of dealing with the stress.

I’ve been doing really well since January with my eating habits, so this week, I’m feeling very disappointed in myself. I found a website, www.ShrinkYourself.com that offers an Emotional Eating Center where I found free articles and tips for dealing with my emotional eating. They even have a mobile “Emotional Eating Intervention” program I can use on my cell phone.

They offer a free interactive personalized emotional eating session that I’m checking out. I know that the stress of Destination Imagination will pass, but I don’t like that I want to eat when I get stressed. It’s just not healthy. I’d like to learn how to overcome being an emotional eater.

I am definitely an emotional eater now that I’m older. When I was much much younger and got stressed there was no way I could eat. Instead of would get sick at my stomach. Now, I want to eat everything in sight. Not good….I’ve just learned that I have to stay very very busy and most of the time, the hunger passes.

Ellen - I think I’m the same way and that’s why sewing is good for me. After all, it’s a bit difficult to eat while operating a sewing machine or cutting fabric, right?! Sewing is definitely a healthy hobby. :-D

Corrin - I know exactly how you feel. I made it my goal in January to start eating healthier because I’d put on quite a few pounds over the last stressful year. I was doing pretty well until this last week. It sort of fell apart. Yesterday was really bad, but I’m hoping to get back on track, starting today. Now, if someone would please come remove the bags of cheetohs and chips from my pantry, I’d truly appreciate it!
