Wedding Planning

Wedding Planning

I saw this photograph and it reminded me of two things. The first thing that came to mind was my own wedding over 21 years ago. The second was that my nephew will be getting married in just over a year.

When my husband and I got married we were living in Southern California. We had one of our very first dates aboard the Queen Mary. They have a nice, intimate restaurant aboard and we had a very nice evening. It was so memorable in fact, we decided to have our wedding in the on board chapel. It was fantastic, small, but beautiful. The benefit of having it there was that they provided a wedding planner, so I really didn’t have to do much.

My mom & I went out shopping for my dress and I remember not being able to find what I had envisioned. Somehow, my mom came to my rescue and volunteered to make my dress herself. She is a wonderful seamstress, although, I don’t believe apparel is something she really enjoys sewing. She is definitely a quilter. But, she volunteered none the less and I wound up with the most beautiful, perfect dress. Whenever I look back on our wedding photographs, I am still touched by all the effort she put in to making that dress, and yes, I still have it.

My nephew and his fiance are all ready planning their wedding. They have the date booked and the reception hall reserved. They’ve been busy choosing cakes, tuxedos and dresses among other things. While they don’t have a wedding planner, I hope they are able to find a terrific photographer. A wedding is such an important part of our lives, the photographs should be excellent and provide lasting memories of the day. At Classic Photographers we make finding the perfect wedding photographer in Maine easy & convenient, unfortunately, they’re getting married in Indiana. I’m sure they will find the perfect wedding photographer, just the same.

I’m looking forward to their wedding, I know it’s going to be a very special day. I need to ask them if she’s chosen her dress yet, I wonder who made it.

Blogger Craft Club

I have been very busy and have several projects that I’ve either just learned or that I have been working on and set aside as a temporary UFO. I had trouble deciding which one to post here this morning, but, I chose this simple fleece blanket because it really is so easy and can be made in any size.

First, I purchase 3/4 yard of fleece. Cut that in half and you can create 2 blankets out of it. You need to purchase enough flat lace (something that looks hand crocheted) to go around all four sides, it just depends on what size blanket you are making.

I used a serger to go all the way around the edge of the fleece before attaching the lace, but this could be done on a sewing machine as well. I then used an edge joining foot which allows me to lay the lace and fleece next to each other rather than laying the lace on top. Use an edge joining stitch to join the two together. The bunny is a small embroidery that I did on my machine using a 100×100 hoop.

I had so much fun making this, it can be completed in just a couple of hours, I purchased more fleece and lace to make several more. These make excellent baby gifts!

Easter

“Sins are the cause of our afflictions, and Christ only forgives them if we believe”
Send it to someone you care for…

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the sepulcher. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone; and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. Lo, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Hail!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

“Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in highest.”

My Easter Egg Personality

What Your Easter Egg Says About You

You are cheerful, friendly, and open minded.
You do your best to make sure everyone is happy, including yourself.
Empathy comes easily to you. You are very forgiving.
You don’t hold grudges. You easily forget about any negativity in your life.

I’m not sure I agree with the description completely, it only asked that I pick my favorite egg out of the group. Well, it was my favorite! :-D

Happy Easter!

An Interview with The Sewing Mom

A while back I did an interview with “5 Minutes for Mom” and the interview has now been published. I’m really quite honored by this and I certainly hope you will take a look. I’m not a person of many words, but it might give you some insight into how I came to the blogging world and why I enjoy it so much.

Men’s Skin Care

I was in the shower this morning and I happened to notice that my husband has taken to using my face wash. This doesn’t really bother me except for the fact that I know it’s not his preferred face wash. The one he prefers, apparently is no longer made. I have searched every store that sells skin care products and can’t find it. I’ve even checked online to no avail.

While searching online though, I ran across a new line of men’s skin care products. What’s special about these products is that they’ve been designed and developed by a man, for men. At Anthony.com I found everything from shaving products to anti-aging products. They also have hair care products that are worth checking out.

By the way, a percentage of Anthony For Men proceeds is donated to charities in support of the fight against prostate cancer.

Anyway, I’m considering a foaming face cleanser at Anthony for Men as a replacement for my husband’s previously preferred face wash. He needs something gentle to wash with before he shaves.

I’m A Boston Creme

You Are a Boston Creme Donut

You have a tough exterior. No one wants to mess with you.

But on the inside, you’re a total pushover and completely soft.

You’re a traditionalist, and you don’t change easily.

You’re likely to eat the same doughnut every morning, and pout if it’s sold out.

What Donut Are You?

Wordless Wednesday

Our puppy Plinko is 10 months old and this was her first experience in snow. She absolutely loved it. She plowed through it, romped, jumped, and basically ran around like a crazy dog. It really was very funny. She just couldn’t figure out why, later in the day, the 4 inches of snow had completely disappeared! This is Dallas after all, wait a few hours and the weather will change. :-D

Have Sewing Machine, Will Travel

Both of my sisters just returned to their respective homes after spending several days in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the MountainFest Quilt Festival. They had so much fun and learned a lot of new techniques that I can’t wait for them to share with me.

They’ve slowly been sending me pictures of their adventures and the one thing I’ve really noticed throughout the pictures is that they have their sewing machines with them. I see their machines in their rental cabin, I see them in their classes and in their lectures. Of course, this is normal, when you attend sewing or quilting classes, usually you bring your own materials, including your sewing machine. Of course, when they weren’t attending classes or lectures, they were out shopping for fabric and patterns at the hundreds of vendors that were also at the festival.  I don’t think they took the machines with them when they shopped!

I haven’t been anywhere outside of the local area since we moved here in April.  I really wanted to attend the festival with my sisters, but the timing wasn’t right for me, maybe next year.

My husband may be going on a flight to New York for business soon and I was thinking it would be fun to tag along. I don’t think I’d want to take my sewing machine on an airplane, security would be a nightmare, but even without my machine I could have fun. Can you imagine going to the textile mart in New York? I can only imagine the thousands of bolts of fabulous fabric to choose from. Just think of all the fabric bags I could create!

Of course, I think while I was there I might also have to go visit the Statue of Liberty. It’s something I’ve always wanted to see, but never quite made it. A trip to New York would be awesome, there are so many amazing things to do. I would definitely take an empty suitcase to bring back all of the fabric I will buy while I’m there.

Fabulous Bag

My sister has been being quite creative lately. She recently decided to sew a small, over the shoulder bag using a Harley Davidson bandanna! This is a pattern she has made several bags out of, but this was the first time she used a bandanna. The bag has a zipper front and a pocket on the back. This is a great bag to carry when you’re only wanting to have a few items with you. Perfect for teens and tweens too!
