Pillowcases

My sister has created her own pillowcase pattern and they are really coming out so cute! She made these for her two granddaughters and embroidered their names on them with her new embroidery machine. I just love the fabrics she used.

What do you think?

Skin Care

The weather here in North Texas has been absolutely insane this week. One day it’s in the 80’s, the next it’s highs in the 50’s. One day the sun is out, the next we’ve got a pile of hail on the ground from sever storms. We simply never know what it’s going to do. Today, it’s beautiful and crisp, just right for getting out and doing some yard work, time to pull those weeds!

Personally, I find that when the weather changes so drastically like this, my skin suffers. I put lotion on every single day following my shower, but the high winds and constant changes in temperature here require different skin care products. There’s nothing worse than feeling scaly or itchy, so I always want to have the right product on hand.

Now, besides the weather conditions, I also have to consider the age of my skin. I’m not one to consider plastic surgery, but there are certainly Age Defying Complete Skin care Solution products available that are worth using that can keep my skin looking young. I personally look for products that are dermatologist tested and approved.

I currently order my skin care products, including body lotion online. Once I’ve figured out how long it takes me to go through my product, I can subscribe to the auto-ship program which makes it super convenient to always have what I need on hand. Using auto-ship is also cost effective.

Well, now that I’ve told you what I do to my skin daily, I’m headed out into the gorgeous day to pull some weeds out of the flower beds. Before I go, let me remind you, make sure you’re using an SPF in your product, protect your skin!

My New Toy

I am becoming more & more addicted to my sewing! A couple of weeks ago I took a little class on creating these small, fleece, cuddle blankets. At the class, we used a serger to go around the edges of the fleece, but I don’t have a serger at home. So, I’ve been using my sewing machine to sew around the edges.

Now, anyone who sews knows that most sewing machines can do a fine job sewing an overlocking stitch around the edge of fabric, but it also take a while to go all the way around, not to mention, it uses quite a bit of thread.

I happened to be in the store on Monday when the lady informed me that she had just sold a very nice, entry level serger machine that had been discontinued, for less than $200. She said it was very good quality and in fact, had purchased one herself and felt strongly that she could find a few more at area stores. Indeed she did find one and I purchased it yesterday!

Now, I read the manual this morning and, other than the one blanket I made in class, I have absolutely no experience using a serger and I can’t seem to get this one to sew anything. It came out of the box pre-threaded and I didn’t change anything, but it doesn’t seem to want to sew. So, I will have to wait to use it I think.

I am signed up for a class on Wednesday of this week to learn all about it and after that I will be powering my way through more fleece blankets. I stocked up on fleece this week because it was 1/2 price, so I’m ready to go. In the mean time, I think I’ll go start another project, maybe a new bag.

Here’s my new toy.
