Oh Lucky Me!

8th April 2008

Oh Lucky Me!

So, I’m walking along, minding my own business when it happens. “Oh look! Someone has dropped their wallet right here in the middle of the sidewalk!” I open the wallet only to find the identification of one of the most famous quilters of all time! I begin looking around to see if the lady who owns this wallet is around and I don’t see anyone, not a single person. Where is everybody? What will I do with this wallet?

I begin looking further in the wallet and I discover credit cards as well as the driver’s license. Just think of all the wonderful quilting supplies I could go buy at my favorite quilt shops! I feel lucky that I’ve found this wallet just in time to attend the Paducah Quilt Show later this month! I’m thinking, I look an awful lot like this lady, even if I’m only a beginning quilter and she’s an expert, but maybe I can pass myself off as her! With the credit cards, I can even buy my own plane ticket and book my hotel.

What do you think, can you guess who I’d be impersonating?

Truthfully, I would only open the wallet to find out who it belonged to. I would also hope that whoever it belonged to knew the importance of identity theft protection such as life lock for their own safety. What would you do if you found someone’s wallet?

Hi. I never heard of Life Lock but I’m going to look into it.

Someone did get hold of my credit card info and charged up a storm but they were smart. They charged small amounts all over the place online and they mimicked by stores. I didn’t even notice because it’s a card I used for EVERYTHING.

Their mistake was that they finally charged something in England and the credit card company busted them. I was lucky that Citibank was diligent and I didn’t have to pay anything. In all I think it added up to $3000!

I now have one card just for internet purchases with a small credit limit so if I do ever get stuck with the bill, it’s an amount that I can deal with.

Mickie - I also have a cc just for use on the internet. It makes it so much easier to track spending and verify purchases. It’s really scary to think what can be done with just a little personal information.

If I found someone’s wallet, I would try to return it to them. My hubby had his wallet stolen from work a year ago, so we know what it’s like to lose a wallet and have a thief use your credit cards, checks, etc.

Rose - I think it would be horrible to have your information and credit cards stolen. I would also turn in a found wallet, hoping someone would do the same for me.

As much as I’m on the internet, I have that fear from time to time. I just try to take all precautions to prevent it. By the way, Lynne, what are you making in this picture?

phising is rampant now… it’s really hard to trust other people on the net these days…but if I were the ones who picked the wallet…obviously i’ll inform the owner right away to save him/her from further hassle…
