Promotional Items

We did it! We’ve reserved our booth in Knoxville, Tennessee for our first craft sale! We’re all very excited and now we have to make sure we have everything we need for our sale.

My sisters and I are busy sewing, making purses, totes and bags to sell. My niece has been crafting painted fabric wall hangings and my mom is making a variety of items. We should have a full booth and will hopefully sell it all!

In addition to what we are selling, we also have to promote ourselves. The goal is to not only sell at the craft sale, but to have sales continue through words of mouth. I sell things on this site and my sister and I have been working on both opening up online stores. To let people know where to find us, I recently ordered business cards from VistaPrint.com that I will insert into every bag I sell. I also have labels sewn directly into everything I create. I always want to ensure that the buyer remembers that they got their bag from The Sewing Mom!

In addition to the business cards, there are other promotional items that I’m considering including magnets and ink pens that can be personalized. I just want people to like what they buy from me and to help them remember me when they want to purchase again.

What type of promotional items do you use for your business?

I swear by Vistaprint. They are so awesome. Right now they’re offering free car magnets. I have 3 of the small and 1 of the large ones. They seem to get a lot of attention locally. I had the calendar/business card magnets made & give those out with sales, also. I had flyers made, and am planning on distributing them at my target market sites (dance studios),brochures, too, and of course the pens. Every time I get another free offer, I order more stuff. I think I’m one of their best customers of all time. :)

How did you locate the craft show? I’ve been trying to figure out how to get involved in one, but haven’t been able to locate anything online..

I suppose you can’t give us specifics on the craft show for security reasons? I travel alot to Knoxville on weekends, so just curious.

Lynne, we need a name for ourselves so all of our online friends will know who we are if they can make it to the Knoxville flea market :-)

I love craft fairs. I have already participated in one and am planning a second one, but I have to have more inventory stocked up before I do that. Good luck at the fair.

Nissa – I need to start taking advantage of more of VistaPrints free offers! They really do do a nice job.
My niece & nephew live in the Knoxville, TN area and were scouting craft shows and flea markets for us. We’ve never done anything like this before, so we didn’t want to do a “juried” event, they have so many display requirements and their entry fees are typically higher. Instead, we opted to do a flea market. My niece has attended this one and it’s not the typical junky flea market, it’s filled with a variety of vendors and takes place at the Knoxville Expo Center. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll email you information.

We will be having a booth at the Knoxville Flea Market in July. This isn’t the typical junky flea market, it’s at the Knoxville Expo Center and has about 400 vendors with a variety of products, many of them crafts and handmade items.

Jenny – No, it’s not the Dogwood Arts Festival, although that looks very nice. As this is our first time out doing something like this, we opted to go with a more casual event. In this case, it’s the Knoxville Flea Market. I know it sounds odd, but they’re known for having a lot of craft vendors. It’s located indoors at the Knoxville Expo Center.

Thanks Kim! We scheduled ourselves in July to give us more time to increase our inventory. I’m hoping it goes well and we’ll be able to do more and better shows down the road. Where have you done a craft show and how did it go?
