Tackle It Tuesday Meme

I was asked by one of my readers to create something for her child that will soon be turning 1. Besides creating fleece blankets, I hadn’t really done anything for young children, so this was a challenge for me and I took it on whole heartedly.

I began my using what I know and the working with the supplies I all ready possessed. I love working with fabric, so the project I came up with was pieced fabric blocks. These are about 2 1/2 in. square and can be embroidered with letters or small designs. I love using all the brighter colored fabrics for kids. These are stuffed with polyfill and are washable.

What do you think?

Nice Job! I did some similar to these for my daughter (a million years ago, now, it seems like!), adding small child-proof empty plastic bottles half-full of “rattly” stuff - rice, buttons, bells. They were a fun project and she loved them.

Karen - They were really simple to make, even the embroidery was done on my machine. The most difficult part is hand sewing the last piece closed. It’s only difficult for me because I don’t like to hand sew! :-D

Les - I do think these blocks could be stuffed with just about anything!

I think they’re great! I really like the idea of adding rattly stuff in them too. Perfect grandkid toys!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these, especially since my daughter’s name is Isabelle, spelled exactly the way you have it. If she weren’t too old for these I’d take them off your hands. What an outstanding idea.

Those are fantastic!! Soft blocks like those can sell for a lot, and I haven’t seen any as beautiful as those. Your embroidery is so cool. I think you’ll get your money’s worth from that machine!

Chris - I think I’ve seen that same mobile! I know when my daughter was born (she’s 12), red, black & white was the big thing in baby toys.

Thanks Nissa! I really had fun making these blocks, I’m hoping to start selling them!

I think these are fantastic. They have a cool professional look but not something you would buy from a bulk retailer. I would imagine these would cost a lot of money from a specialist hi end store!

I just love the name Isabelle! It’s so very pretty! :-D

Mike - Actually, they don’t take too long once I get going. I do a little production line. My daughter stuffed them for me to help.
