Raising Money for School

Raising Money for School

We received an interesting letter home from school this week from the school’s PTA. The letter wanted parent input on if the current school fund raisers should be continued in the future or should parents simply pay a $50 per student fund raising fee at the beginning of the school year. Interesting choice!

Personally, I think the fund raising can continue the way it is. Parents can choose which programs, if any, to participate in and don’t have to do any if they don’t want to. Of course, there are also other methods of school fundraising besides sending kids out door to door.   For example, SchoolPop.com partners with national retailers to allow a percentage of customers purchases to go directly to their chosen school. So, just be being a part of SchoolPop and doing what you know you’re going to do anyway, shop, you can earn money for your school.

What fund raisers are you involved with for your children’s schools?

Sounds like an interesting program. I’ve had several kids come to my door this year selling magazines for their schools, etc. I have such a hard time telling them no. Aaaaaahhh!

Boy, am I glad we’re done with that. Our kids always had the candy bars and the magazine subscriptions. At least the candy bars were familiar brands, so their friends always bought from them. Just the same, I used to cringe everytime the term “fundraiser” came up.

we can sign up at our grocery store, however much you buy, the store gives a percentage of that amount to the school of your choice.

We just went door to door for my daughter’s fiddle-a-thon. And although this is something I don’t enjoy doing. It was for something that she was involved in so I didn’t mind too much. I would not like paying a flat fee for all programs that the school is involved in as my kids don’t belong to all programs. I like having the choice to participate or not.

Mike - I have a hard time telling kids no as well. My daughter has had her full share of fund raising for school and clubs. Unfortunately, she’s got 6 more years of school before I think I’ll see an end to it.

Jennifer - The candy bars (or anything chocolate) was the one thing I didn’t mind selling, they seem to sell themselves!

Grace - I think I’ve seen other stores that do something similar. It’s nice to know that regular shopping allows money to go back into the community/schools.

Kim - I agree, I wouldn’t want to pay a flat fee either. I support the clubs and activities that my daughter is involved with.
