It's a bit intimidating though and I didn't even take it out of the box until I was ready for my instructional class. Once I learned how to thread it and a few of the things I could do with it, I thought I was ready. I set it all up, threaded it, turned it on.... and nothing. I did the same thing as u and bought one without having used one - they are so good but u have to get comfortable with putting your foot down before u put the material in - hard to break the habit of a lifetime and broke a lot of threads learning! The nice thing about purchasing from a dealer versus a big box store is that typically free classes come with the purchase. It's a great way to learn how to use the machine. It's a model that they are no longer carrying. They also offered me a different model, but I got a very good deal on this one because it was discontinued, I don't want to spend more money.
