The Ulitimate Ice Cream Experience

Imixamerica
I scream! You scream! We all scream for ICE CREAM!!

That’s exactly what I feel like doing right this minute after spending the morning out at the softball field! I’m really glad it was an early game because it it’s definitely going to be hot out and getting hotter. Although our team lost, they took second on the season and in the tournament and they played their hearts out. I think that’s cause for celebration, and celebration means ice cream!

I think after lunch we’re going to head over to our favorite ice cream shop, Cold Stone Creamery. My daughter’s been wanting to develop her own creation so she can enter the Awesome Cold Stone Contest where the Grand Prize winner will win a $30,000 value pack! Unbelievable!

The contest is open to ages 13-19. You don’t have to purchase anything, but then again, I think it’s fun to go in and have them put your ingredients together so you can give it a good taste test before entering it in the contest! Of course, that’s just my opinion, but I’m sure my daughter won’t be opposed to the idea! We might even have to go back a few times for her to perfect her creation, after all, she only gets to submit one entry. The deadline to enter is June 5, 2008, so we don’t have time to mess around. She’s got to get her creation made, tasted and entered.  What about you?  Will you be entering the contest?

Just think, even if she doesn’t win, we’ll have enjoyed our ice cream. :-D

Father’s Day Gift Idea

My daughter and I are still discussing what to get my husband, her dad, for Father’s Day which is a mere two weeks away. We also have to start thinking about what to do for his birthday which is a mere two months away. He is definitely not the easiest man to buy for, he has very expensive taste and is somewhat choosy. I may have mentioned at some point that he collects time pieces, quality watches. It’s something I’ve always wanted to buy him, but he is extremely particular about his watches and I would never presume to know what he would like, there are so many to choose from.

I do know that he has always admired Breitling watches like the one pictured above. These are way out of my price range, but he admires them none the less. Perhaps some day he’ll be able to get that dream watch, but for now, I have to look at less expensive items.

I’ve also been looking at several jewelry watches that I think he would enjoy. He likes having a variety of watches and doesn’t usually wear the same one two days in a row. It’s similar to ladies changing their jewelry, he changes his watch, besides his wedding band, it’s the only jewelry he wears. I think the only watch I’ve ever purchased for him was a Seiko chronograph that he still has and I gave that to him over 20 years ago!

So, we’re still considering all of our options, but I guess we better make a decision soon, Father’s Day will be here before we know it!

Four Foods on Friday

My favorite day of the week? Friday. My favorite meme? Four Foods on Friday

This is a weekly meme and if you’d like to participate, head over and give Valmg a shout out!

This week’s questions:

#1. What is your favorite food that is cooked on the barbeque? I love bbq ribs. I start mine out in the crock pot and finish them on the grill, I think that counts!

#2. What veggies, if any, do you cook on the barbeque? I’ve done corn on the cob, baked potatoes, red potatoes, and of course, grilled onions and peppers.

#3. Tell us a little about your barbeque habits. Who grills, how often, what months, etc. We use our grill all year long. When we have company, my husband does the grilling. If it’s just us, I’m usually doing the grilling. We use the grill at least once a week and more in the summer, it keeps the heat out of the house!

#4. Share a barbeque recipe. This is one of my favorite steak marinades.

Soak tenderized steaks in 1 cup Jack Daniels whiskey, preferably 8-10 hours. Place carefully on pre-heated grill. The alcohol may cause flare up, so be careful! A few minutes before the steaks are done, slather bbq sauce on them and finish grilling. Watch carefully so they don’t burn.

Looking At Custom Labels

In preparation for our craft show in July, I’m looking at promotional items, again.

One thing I’ve been considering is what type of packaging to use when someone makes a purchase. I’ve always remembered one of my favorite gift shops that I used to frequent and they always placed my purchased in the prettiest paper bag. Located on the paper bag was an adhesive label with the store’s name and address printed on it using Digital Printing so it looked very professional. These were custom labels and I’m sure they had to be ordered in large quantity, but for a store that size it was a great idea.

I may be able to print a smaller quantity myself as I’m not quite ready for such a big order. If I were doing wine bottles or food packaging, I’d have a large enough quantity to justify the order.

Do you notice what packaging your purchases come in?

Retail Therapy

I decided to go do something different today and try to forget about my head hurting and sinus problems.  I met my friend at the mall, something I haven’t done in 6 months, and we enjoyed a nice lunch in the food court and some much needed retail therapy.  I bought myself 2 pairs of sandals, and some new under garments at a famous “secret” lingerie store.  Definitely not something I do on a regular basis!

After leaving the mall, I swung by the fabric store looking for frog buttons.  I didn’t find any, but they fat quarters on sale so I bought several to make fabric building blocks.   I even found a new gnome for our front yard, do you know how difficult it is to find a decent gnome?!

Anyway, while my head still hurts, mentally I feel much better.

Getting Some Sleep

I’ve been making mental notes that I want to go over with the doctor the next time I see her regarding what may or may not be causing my headaches. One of those things is my sleeping patterns, or usually, my lack of sleep.

I’ve always had trouble falling asleep, and then once I am asleep, I many times have trouble staying asleep. I’ve used the white noise machine to lull me to sleep. I read before going to bed. I do my best to keep my husband from snoring so that the noise doesn’t keep me awake. I also keep my bedroom very dark because I can’t sleep with light in the room. On occasion, I’ve kept a notepad and pen by the bed to write down thoughts when I wake up during the night. That’s allowed me to go back to sleep, knowing I won’t forget what popped into my head by morning.

Different things work at different times and I’m always trying something different.  What methods do you use to get a good nights sleep?

Buttons, Buttons, In Search of Buttons

I made a couple of fabric bags yesterday and I really would like to accent the one bag with a couple of buttons.  The fabric I used is a green frog print and I’d like some accent buttons that are cute little frogs.  Does anyone know a good place to buy cute decorative buttons?

My camera returns this evening, along with my husband, so I’ll try to post photos of my two completed bags tomorrow.  :-D

Boating Safety

I realize this is a sewing blog, but occasionally, I run across things that I feel are important and should be shared. In this particular case, when I saw that Arizona is attempting to combat alcohol related boating accidents and fatalities, I felt that was important enough to write about here.

My cousin and her husband live near Lake Havasu in Arizona and I know they spend many days of the year on their own boat out on the lake, they truly love Arizona Boating . I also know that they feel it’s very important that boaters be educated. Educated boaters are 70% less likely to be involved in a boating accident.

Did you know that Boating Operating Under the Influence is considered a Class I misdemeanor? Just like in driving a land vehicle, there is a legal limit for blood alcohol. In the state of Arizona, that limit is .08. Half of all fatal boating accidents in Arizona last year were alcohol related. That’s pretty disturbing.

The message here is this. Before taking your boat out, no matter where you live, get educated. While boating safety education is not required, it is highly recommended. Arizona makes it so easy, they even offer Boating Education Online.

Please remember to Boat Safe, Boat Smart, Boat Sober and take a boating education class in person or online. Check out Boating Education for more information.

Quick Stop at the Quilt Shop

It’s even more obvious to me now, just how bad I am feeling.

I ran to the quilt shop this afternoon to pick up more tubular frames for my bags.  I left without purchasing a single piece of fabric!  Are you kidding me?  I’m sitting here now wondering what the h*** was wrong with me! How could I go into a quilt shop and not buy any fabric!

Truth is, I really couldn’t focus on the fabrics.  I did look at several different bolts and I couldn’t seem to come up with a combination that I liked, my head just wasn’t in it.  Now my heart is breaking!  I want some new fabric.
