Getting Some Sleep

Getting Some Sleep

I’ve been making mental notes that I want to go over with the doctor the next time I see her regarding what may or may not be causing my headaches. One of those things is my sleeping patterns, or usually, my lack of sleep.

I’ve always had trouble falling asleep, and then once I am asleep, I many times have trouble staying asleep. I’ve used the white noise machine to lull me to sleep. I read before going to bed. I do my best to keep my husband from snoring so that the noise doesn’t keep me awake. I also keep my bedroom very dark because I can’t sleep with light in the room. On occasion, I’ve kept a notepad and pen by the bed to write down thoughts when I wake up during the night. That’s allowed me to go back to sleep, knowing I won’t forget what popped into my head by morning.

Different things work at different times and I’m always trying something different.  What methods do you use to get a good nights sleep?

Good nights sleep??? what’s that??? Actually when I do get one it’s usually on Friday night when I know I don’t have to work the next day. However someone recently told me to try Tylenol PM. My problem taking sleeping tablets like that is that I’m afraid of a slight addiction. And since I’m such a night owl, I’m afraid I would only get 5 hours of sleep or maybe oversleep. I’ve even thought of maybe trying one on the weekend. Bottom line…nothing can beat a good nights sleep when you feel rested, alert and energetic!!!

I’ve struggled with sleep issues for years. The thing that works best for me is to fall asleep with the TV on. I’ve learned to pay attention to what’s coming on after the current program though–one night I woke up to loud banging at my door and a male voice calling “Open up! Police!” After jumping out of bed and racing to the front door I realized that “Cops” had come on. No more sleep for me that night!

I get the best night sleep when my husband sleeps on the couch in front of the TV. If he sleeps in the room you can be no sleeping for me (snoring).
