Ellen - The doctor sent a dietary recommendation to me in the mail. It's a bit tough to make any sense of, but I am monitoring the fats and calories I'm eating over the next few weeks.

Jodith - I'm hoping that my cholesterol is high for exactly that reason. I'm monitoring my diet over the next few weeks and will then have another test done. I'm also making sure to get in at least 30 minutes a day of physical activity. Hopefully, it will be back to normal with the next test.

Chris -
Yep, I'm so confused with the cholesterol, I don't know which end is up! I'm trying to keep track of what I'm eating, but it's not easy. Unless you cook something directly from a package, it's hard to calculate the fats and calories. It's all ready driving me nuts and it's only been a few days. I'll have another test done in a few weeks.

Cholesterol levels can be falsely high if you've recently had a very fatty meal, even if you don't eat like that all the time. However, high cholesterol is often a problem of genetics as much as diet. If you don't bring it down with diet and exercise, you should look at taking one of the statin drugs to bring it down, since high cholesterol is usually a very high risk factor in heart disease.

What did the doctor say about your diet? The reason I ask is that years ago when I had the cholesterol test my doc said that my bad cholesterol was a tiny bit high. She told me to cut back on my fatty foods. Before that test I had never ever had high cholesterol. So I did what she said, had another test and the cholesterol was back down to normal. Since then I've never had a bad one.

Isn't Cholesterol confusing sometimes !? I had mine checked too and it was rather high, but my good ones were high and my bad ones low, so they basicly said I was okay. I am like, wha....?
Good luck on getting yours down. Our scout master just had a mild heart attack last week, hes like 45, hikes, camps, is in really good health, it totally freaked us and the boys out as he is the most healty of the leaders!
Walking is good, we like that, plus, I carry my way-cool bag everywhere now :) Take Care girl !
