Basics of a Home Based Sewing Business

For the past several weeks, I’ve been reading a book I checked out from our local library, all about having a home based business. It’s sort of like the Home Business for Dummies, but not quite. I picked it up in the hopes it would provide me with a better track for my home based sewing business because I really feel like I don’t know what I’m doing with it. I know how to sew, I just don’t know how to turn it into a business.

I’m truthfully not sure if the book helped or hindered. It was pretty simple to read and I understood most of it, but it still leaves me with a ton of questions. The book covered everything from how to get a business license to how to accept credit cards as payments (something I’m not ready to do unless it’s through an online sale).  Sometimes I just feel so overwhelmed and clueless!

In the mean time, I’ve decided to go back to work, on a part time basis. I will write more about the specifics of the new job later, but tomorrow I will be attending a 6 hour orientation. Next Monday I begin 7 weeks of in office training and then I will be working from home. It will be nice to have a regular paycheck again, but I am still going to work on my sewing and my business.

Well it’s nice that you’ll be able to work from home once you get through your training. Can’t wait to hear about your new job. And, see your new quilt!

Yes, I’ll be glad to get started and settled into a routine. I need some extra money to continue with my sewing!
