Not So Wordless Wednesday

posted in sewing |

I have been attending a beginning piecing class at a local quilt shop and this is some of my work so far. The top row is called piano keys, the middle is 4 square and the bottom is 9 patch (I think). I have another strip (bow ties) and another to finish (flying geese) before my final class this Sunday. On Sunday we will be putting all the strips together, along with our primary fabric and I can’t wait to see the final product, my first quilt top!

That’s awesome! I’ve been seriously considering signing some books out of the library and teaching myself quilting…..because you know I have all this extra time that I need to fill with something LOL. I have a Grandma that I’m sure would be ecstatic if I took up quilting, I know she was years ago when I took up cross-stitching.

I can’t wait to see your finished product!

I think my hands are too shaky to be able to effectively sow and make a quilt. I look forward though to seeing how your’s turns out.

That’s really pretty. I think I would like to learn to do something like quilting. My mom and my sister sews but I don’t think they quilt. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt top.

Thanks for the comment on my pictures. That was very sweet.

You’ve never quilted????????? I just assumed … shows ya what assuming does. *lol*

    Careful, it’s incredibly addicting.

I’m having an open house a week from Saturday, on the 11th, for my jewelry business. Drop me a line if you can come. I have a ton of fabric I’ll never use so you can pick over it and help me destash … no charge!

Jolene - Even if I had the extra time, I can’t figure things out on my owned, that why I signed up for the class! It’s nice too to just get out of the house for a few hours a week to get some uninterrupted sewing time!

Hilary - I have actually quilted some small projects, i.e., tote bags, but I’ve never made a regular quilt. And, I lied, this is my 2nd quilt top, but it is much more difficult than the Hungry Caterpillar quilt top I made a couple of weeks ago. :-D

Diana - Thanks so much for subscribing! I’m very anxious to see the finished quilt top as well! The fabric that you’re not seeing in what I’ve done so far is actually my favorite and it will show up really well in the quilt top (I hope!).

Nice work for a beginner I envy you because you have time to sew, sewing is my passion but my time won’t permit to do the things right now..

waterrose - I’m glad you can’t see it up close! I have been trying very hard to get the points to match up. I would say that about 97% of them do. The bow ties have given me the most trouble, but I think I finally got them. :-D

malou - Trust me, right now I am having to force myself to find time to sew, we have been incredibly busy. If I didn’t have to have certain portions completed before the next class, I wouldn’t be sewing! Guess that’s why signing up for a class is a good thing, it forces me to get it done! :-D

I can’t wait to see the end result either. I’d love to find out how much fabric is needed for the 9 patch.
