My Viking

I have had a lot of people ask me what kind of sewing machine I use, so I thought I would post a photo of my machine. It is a Viking Platinum 955E and it’s about 2 years old. It is a sewing and embroidery machine, although, I haven’t been doing much embroidery lately. I bought the machine new and have sewn more since getting it than I’d sewn in my entire life. It is due for a cleaning, but I can’t seem to part with it long enough for it to be cleaned!

What type of machine do you sew on?

wow nice sewing machine! Mine is Pfaff and i love it too although it is not as fancy as yours but i am loving it. My father in law gave it to me when i celebrated my very first mother’s day back in 2005.

If you lived closer (maybe you do, not sure where you are), we could service your machine (and it’s a VERY good one). That’s what our business is. Would also like to know more about your PayPal store. Sounds interesting. Do you like it and is it relatively simple to use? Love your blog!

I have a Designer I that also does embroidery and love it, too!

So Judy are you anywhere near San Antonio, TX? lol

    My machine likewise needs servicing.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Pfaff, if I could only say the word! It just doesn’t quite roll off the tongue now, does it?! Just kidding, I really do hear they make great machines.

Judy – I tried to figure out where you’re located, but can’t find anything on your site. Are you in TX by chance? I have another commenter also wanting to know where you are located.

Grandma Betty – I really like the Designer I also. Viking has discontinued my machine and brought out a few new models, way out of my price range! I’ve asked Judy to let me know where she’s located, I couldn’t find that information on her site. If she lets me know, I’ll pass along the information.

I am glad to hear that you like your Viking 955e. I have a Viking 735 sewing machine (which I love!!), but which does not do embroidery. I am interested in doing embroidery, so will likely buy an embroidery machine this weekend. I have been debating between the 955e (which is discontinued so I can get a good price) or the Viking Designer Quilt II ESS. If anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate it. I have heard that sometimes on the 955e the threads get tangled underneath during embroidery. Have you found this to be the case?

    Thanks, and keep on bloggin’!!

Kerry – It really depends on how much money you would like to spend. I really do like my Platinum 955E, although, I would really like to get the Designer SE (also recently discontinued). The Platinum requires “D-cards” to be inserted for embroidery while the SE allows you to use a USB flash drive or connect directly to your computer for embroidery. The SE also has a lot of great extra features. Someday, I hope to also own the SE.
If you quilt, I would definitely look at the quilting machines. They tend to offer more space on the sewing bed which makes it easier to machine quilt the larger projects.

I too need to send out my machine for maintenance. I have a Babylock embroidery machine which I love! My husband got me my one to start my own sewing business and I ended up making more money blogging about sewing than actually selling my sewn items.

Jan – It’s funny how blogging can make us money, who would’ve thought it! My blog has also helped me make money with my sewing, so that’s a bonus!
