Win Cereal and Help a Family in Need

I’ve seen some crazy things since I first began reading blogs, but today I found a super crazy blogger with a super crazy but worthwhile idea. Because of his love for cereal, Ted Murphy has decided to host a contest where one person can win enough cereal to fill a bathtub, 52 boxes to be exact! The best part of the deal is that not only will Ted give the winner 52 boxes of cereal, but he’ll also donate 52 boxes of cereal to a food bank located near him.

In case you’re wondering, he hasn’t limited entries to just the U.S.A. either. If you reside outside of the U.S. and enter, you can win $200 via PayPal in lieu of the cereal boxes.

The only catch to this contest is that Ted needs to get 500 or more unique comments on his blog post in order for him to declare a winner, so I hope everyone will head over and leave him a comment, maybe enter the contest while you’re at it!

Using Layaway For Holiday Shopping

I’ve mentioned my daughter’s “wish list” in a previous post, well, that list has been growing. The list is posted on the refrigerator where I can’t miss it and I’ve noticed the list getting longer.  I’ve all ready purchased several items on the list, but there is at least one expensive electronic item that I’ve been waiting on because of the expense.  Plus, I need to get my husband a gift or two and, as we’re learning from attending softball tournaments, we need gear like comfy chairs and blankets to help us stay comfortable while contending with cold weather and high winds, sitting outside at a softball game. So, my shopping list has grown whether I like it or not. Since my budget is not growing, I have to say that I don’t like it!Click Here

Thank goodness that I can take advantage of the Kmart Layaway program which, while other retailers have eliminated this convenience long, long ago, Kmart has continued as a service to its customers. With layaway, I can make my purchases now, make a down payment and then pay the remainder of the balance over the next 8 weeks. It means I can feel confident in knowing that I’ve made the purchases before items are out of stock and, I don’t have to use a credit card to do it which saves me the inevitable interest charges. I don’t know about you, but with the holidays looming right around the corner, it’s nice to know that I can purchase those “wish list” items and the other items I need without breaking our personal bank.

If you’ve been waiting to start your holiday shopping, be sure to check out Kmart Layaway.

A Sunday Filled with Relaxation

After spending our entire day yesterday at the softball fields, we have made today a complete day of relaxation, literally!

We all stayed in our pajamas until at least noon (some of us later), and sat around doing not much of anything.  It’s been wonderful!  I got all of my 300 drops done at EC and played a game of LIFE with my daughter who is now upstairs on the Wii with her dad.  She was able to get her math homework done while we watched one of several movies today too.  This will be our last day like this for quite some time, so I’m glad we took advantage of it.

I suppose I really should figure out what to have for dinner…

Discounts at Family and Friends Night

We are definitely turning into a softball family and softball supplies aren’t cheap. Yesterday I even had to make an emergency trip to a sporting goods shop to get warmer sweats because my daughter’s team was playing in a tournament and the temperature was 40 degrees at 8 a.m., the start time of their first game.

The team practices once a week, plus attends batting practice once a week. In between, it’s important for my daughter to practice her pitching, but it would be great if she could also keep her batting practice up on a more regular basis. I think I’ve found the answer, a batting cage that we can put in our backyard.

I found this one at Sears, and, even better, I can attend the Sears Friends & Family VIP Night tonight at the store from 6-9 p.m. or, I can even take advantage of the discounts tonight online from 6 p.m.-6 a.m. The discount is an extra 10% off almost everything, and an extra 5% off home electronics.  Plus, apparel and jewelry are an extra 15% discount and outerwear is an extra 20%.  That’s really good news considering how cold we were yesterday out at the ball fields, we could all use some new outerwear to prepare for the next softball tournament that is just 2 weeks away.

Besides shopping for softball, I plan to have all of my holiday shopping done soon and there is no way I’m venturing out of the house on Black Friday to deal with the crowds. With the Sears Friends & Family VIP Night I don’t need to wait until Black Friday to get the good deals, I can get them tonight, and so can you!
