What is the greatest gift you’ve ever received? I don’t know if I could name just one, but I do remember being about 10 years old and receiving my very first camera, a Kodak. This was, in my mind, the most extravagant gift and I was overwhelmed by it. I felt just like the boy in “A Christmas Story” when he found that he had indeed received his wish from Santa, his Red Rider BB gun.

Of course, it’s one thing to receive gifts as a child, I think we’re so much easier to please when we’re young. As an adult, we tend to purchase for ourselves the things that we really want. At least that’s the case in our family. It does make it difficult to buy gifts for each other. As an adult, I’d have to say my daughter was the best gift I’ve ever been given!

    When I was about 10, there was a box under the tree with my name on it. I opened it only to find another box. Second box opened to reveal a third box. There was one more box, I think, then a wad of tissue paper. I started to unroll the tissue paper and it seemed to go on forever! Finally, I came to the prize … a Black Hills gold ring. I loved my ring! I kept it for a couple of decades, but it was stolen in a house burglary while we were living in LA. The loss of that ring, plus the string of pearls my grandmother gifted me upon my birth was most devastating. (Ack … I didn’t mean for this to end on a sad note!)
