I, too, love this shop! It's a great place to shop and to just spend your time. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the classes and the clubs are fun, and the fabric!! Especially the reproduction fabric--it's just beautiful. I've shopped there for many years and I never get tired of going back to see what's new.

Jane - I'm sorry, no, I don't have the block of the month kits. I purchased my personal kits from a local quilt shop and I know they had so much demand that they are sold out. I was able to locate a website that may still have it available, http://secretworkshop.com/home.php?cat=105 and you may want check them out.

Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Jules - As someone who is addicted to purchasing fabric, and someone who is known to "hunt" down quilt shops in order to purchase more fabric, I'm not sure that I am the right person to ask how much fabric is the right amount to have on hand! The only thing I can suggest though is perhaps, rather than keeping it in bins, put your fabrics on shelves, maybe sorted by color, so that when you go to start a new project, you can see what you all ready have.

As for scraps, I never throw away anything larger than 1 inch square pieces. I also try to keep them by color, but I do have a basket I toss many scraps into. I then give those to my mom who makes what are called "Crazy Quilts", quilts made from all size pieces, that she puts together and gives to a local church charity. Those quilts then go on to be given to those in need. So you see, even a small scrap can serve a huge purpose, it just has to find its way into the right hands.

I don't tend to sew many clothes, but if it is a simple mend or repair that needs done, do it. If it's a bigger issue, toss it or donate it. Once it's in a bin, it's forgotten anyway.

Hope this helps in some small way?! :-D

Quick question from one seamstress to another... I've recently moved into a new place and in doing so have realized just how much surplus fabric/supplies I have. Is it excessive to have a big rubbermaid tub full of extra fabric, plus a few 13-gallon bags full of sraps/unused clothes good for revamping, and such? How much fabric do you usually have handy?
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated :D

Ellen - It was great! It's in old downtown Garland and is in one of the old buildings. I loved it! I really want to take a class there. They also have free Friday night events on the 1st Friday of the month (tonight) from 6-midnight. You just take your machine and whatever project you want to work on and sit there and sew!
