As a member of Parent Reviewers, I was recently given a wonderful opportunity to review the book, “Awakening Consciousness: A Girl’s Guide”. To tell you the truth, I was a bit skeptical about reading this book when it first arrived on my doorstep, but, I am willing to keep an open mind and sat down one evening with my daughter as we read through it together.
Awakening Consciousness: A Girl’s Guide is not only filled with simple, common sense methods of encouraging spiritual growth and self awareness in young ladies, but it is also a workbook filled with wonderful exercises that are simple and yet thought provoking. Many of the exercises were things that we do in our family on a regular basis and yet, reading the exercises along with my daughter allowed us to talk about it openly, something we don’t always do.
The book talks about many things including each individuals aura and maintaining a positive attitude. I found this part of the book most interesting and helpful because my daughter has a friend who has been having difficulty in finding her own purpose while my daughter is quite strong in that area. We discussed it and even talked about ways the she could help her friend by doing these same exercises with her. I think what I liked most about this book is its emphasis on being positive. Positive energy emits positive aura which will allow positive things to happen around you. Negative yields negative. We each create our own future and being positive will lead us down a positive path.
This is a short, quick read, only 96 pages. I do recommend this book as a means of building self confidence and positive reinforcement.

I am here, I’m just not here! I returned to work yesterday and, between that and still trying to get everything else done around the house and help my daughter with her huge reading project, I haven’t had time to sit down and write anything thought provoking, much less do any sewing.
I am doing my best to keep up with EC and as always, I appreciate everyone who stops by and comments whether it’s via EC or some other way. I am slowly but surely responding to comments, I don’t want to get too far behind! Don’t give up on me, I promise to stay on top of things as best as I can.

I showed you the completed quilted Christmas tabletopper that my mom made and then gave to me so I thought I’d show you my sisters and mom with their creations. A few months ago they were all together and created table toppers. This picture shows (left to right) my mom Myrna and my sisters
Karen and Grace, all with the toppers they each made before the backs and bindings were attached and before they were quilted.
We all live in different states, although my my summers in the same town as Karen, so it’s difficult for us to always get together. When we do though, we tend to bring our sewing machines and try to work on some project together. We all love fabric and pretty quilts, so it’s only natural that this is how we spend our time together. I only wish we could do it more often!

I got an email from my daughter’s coach, the team is going to start having batting practices again beginning Monday and that means regular practices aren’t far behind. Then will be games and tournaments and we’ll be in for the full blown season. We’ve all had the last few weeks off and it’s felt really good. Funny thing though, softball is never out of our house because we’ve discovered that we can play online. Well, it’s not softball, but baseball and it is just as fun!

To keep us busy, we’ve discovered
ActionAllStars.com, an online gaming site that has partnered with MLB.com and NBA.com to bring baseball and basketball right to our computer screens. It’s a really cool site and the first thing you do is create your player. The player you see is my daughter’s creation and she named it Turtlez. The Action AllStars website is alot of fun. When you create your action character you get to choose between quite a few hairstyles, some for boys, some for girls and different hair colors. It’s hard to see, but Turtlez does have a ponytail! I think they could’ve come up with a little more feminine sports attire, like maybe a tank top or something to make the character look like a girl, but then, that’s just my opinion.
The games are fun and I can so see us becoming addicted to this game which might actually come in handy during the off season. Of course, the basketball game is great too and will help keep us all busy on those rainy days when we can’t use the hoop out in the driveway.
Seriously, if you enjoy sports and you enjoy online games, be sure to check out ActionAllStars.com and be sure to keep you eye out for Turtlez!
