Not So Wordless Wednesday – Turtle

posted in kids, sewing |

Let me introduce you to “Turtle”.  She is a young girl who is one of the main characters in the novel, The Westing Game. This fabric doll, the cotton shirt, and the bead bracelet, were all hand made by my daughter (see previous post).  The denim pants were hand made by my sister Karen a few years ago for another doll that my daughter owns.  The pants were rolled up to give them the look of capris to better fit Turtle.  The fabric for the shirt was given as a gift from my other sister Grace, so this has definitely become a family projet. The shoes are actually infant shoes that we purchased.

The total cost of making this doll and her attire was approximately $20 and the pride that came with the project is immeasurable.

What a great project for daughter and the whole family. Glad we could be a part of it — reading her inspiration, seeing her working away and seeing the finished project.

Beth – I lost count of how many times she asked me to rip out her stitches, but she worked on the embroidery until it was just the way she wanted it, I was very impressed!

Thanks Wanda! I’m certainly going to remember it, it’s the first project we got through where she did all of the work, I only had to supervise a little, and we didn’t argue about how things got done! I’m very proud of her to tell you the truth. :-D

flemisa – Thanks! I guess I should’ve taken a photo of the back of the doll as well, it would have shown the long brown braided hair in the back too. She really has every reason to be proud of her creation. :-D
