Before I got my home computer I had no idea what I was missing and sometimes I think ignorance is bliss because I wouldn't be spending so much time on it now. If I didn't have access at this point though I would be lost. Hope your Easter was a good one.

Happy Easter - My business centers around the computer and the wonderful world of the web as I am a web designer / developer. I think our life would be a lot less complex if things were like they were in the days of yesteryear. When we lost power in NH for 12 days before Christmas due to an ice storm, I rediscovered the library. Before then, I would read on-line and research on-line. I now make more frequent trips to the good old library - a forgotten place in today's high pace, electronic, computerized society. Our library is inviting to come to - grab a book, get a cup of coffee, and in the winter time, settle down in front of the big fireplace and enjoy an afternoon read.

I was thinking about the same thing the other day, trying to remember what we did before the internet. Vaguely recall going to the library and doing a search through the card catalogs (they had keywords at the bottom of the little cards, but you had to follow the Dewey Decimal System mostly) and then walking over to the stacks, finding the book, going through the index, rifling through the pages and then not finding much.
Or you could just ask the reference librarian. But all this took a lot of time. Now you can have the answer in seconds usually.

I've worked in either journalism or public relations for most of my career. When I first started as a reporter, we only used computers for word processing -- the layout was still done by pulling long strips of newsprint off a printer and creating a newspaper by pasting those columns, ads, photos and everything else together by hand. That's all changed, of course -- layout is all done on computers, resulting in the ability to get everything together faster and make last minute changes with little to no trouble.

And then, of course, there's the Internet...

Anne - I have to admit, we are totally reliant on technology and the internet. Unfortunately, if something breaks or quits working, I have no idea how to fix it!

I work in a very information intense field and I am amazed how valuable the Internet is. When I first started working, there was no Internet and we just spent a lot of time camped out at the library.
