Don’t You Just Love Dolphins and SeaWorld?

It has been many years since I’ve been to SeaWorld, but one of the things I’ve always remembered about visiting was seeing and admiring the dolphins. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been enamored with dolphins and their intelligence. In fact, did you know that dolphins are so intelligent that there are dolphins being used by the U.S. military? In fact, the U.S. Navy has used dolphins for almost 50 years to do several jobs, including delivering items to underwater personnel and finding objects that have been lost underwater.

Dolphins are such beautiful mammals and so enjoyable and graceful to watch.  They work hard when they need to, but are ever so playful with each other too, even blowing dolphin bubbles and that is what makes them so much fun.  It’s also a scientific fact that dolphins communicate with each other using sounds and this is indicative of their high level of intelligence.

Recently, dolphins were discovered blowing air bubble rings and then playing with them.  It really is fascinating to watch how these dolphins have apparently invented their own game and entertain themsevles with it.  Not only that, the game has caught on and other dolphins, after seeing what was taking place, decided to join in on the fun and now they all play together with the air bubble rings.  This is really cool to watch, you really should watch this video. These truly have to be some of the most intelligent mammals on planet Earth.

Mike – Dolphins are not only beautiful, but intriguing to watch. They are gracefu in the water and yet move with power and determination. If you ever have the opportunity to see them in person, I’m sure you will enjoy the experience.

My third grader has been researching bottlenose dolphins, specifically the albino (pink) one that’s been sighted off the coast of Louisiana. They are intriguing creatures.

I think the think I never realized when I was a kid was just how many different types of dolphins there are and the fact that they are all intelligent. It would be interesting to read what your daughter learns in her research.
