Serging For Charity – Eyeglass Cases

I took my serger machine and some fabric to the local Viking Sewing store inside Joann’s today and participated in their serge for charity. From just 4 fat quarters, I was able to make 8 eyeglass cases which are being donated locally to an eyecare charity. This was a great way to spend the afternoon doing something I enjoy doing and giving to those who need it. While

When I got home I made an additional 4 eyeglass cases from 2 fat quarters. I then took a piece of upholstery fabric and made another one and it came out really nice. I really like the thickness of the upholstery fabric combined with a cotton fabric I used for the lining. I think I’m going to order some special “SewingMom” labels to attach to these and had them to my shop.

I forgot to take my camera with me so I don’t have a photo of the 8 cases I donated, but these are the 5 I made after I got home. The green one is made from upholstery fabric.

The goal for the sewing center is to donate 30 of these eyeglass cases each month. Just for August they all ready have almost 300 to donate! I’d say that’s a good month’s work!

Thanks Meghann – These cases are pretty inexpensive to make and not so labor intensive, so I think they could sell for under $5 which might make them popular! :-D
