I’m looking for people who own a Dyson vacuum. Okay, I’m in serious need of some personal experiences and opinions when it comes to vacuums.
In the 20+ years my husband and I have been married, we’ve managed to go through several vacuum cleaners and here I am again, in need of a new one. We’ve gone through 2 or 3 Hoovers and I won’t buy one again, they’re not worth the money. My last vacuum was a canister vac by Kenmore and it did a fantastic job, especially when it came to picking up dog hair. I like the canister because it makes doing the stairs easier and I can get under the furniture with it. The only downside was that the handle of the vacuum itself was top heavy and, because of that, the vacuum fell over and broke some of the connectors. I’ve had this particular vacuum for almost 10 years and it has always worked very well, until it broke. I took it in for repair and they want $275 to repair it, so I figure I can buy a new one instead.
I would like to purchase another Kenmore canister vac because I was totally happy with it. My husband on the other hand, wants a Dyson. I really think he wants the Dyson simply because it looks high tech. I have done price comparisons and it would cost at least $100 more to purchase the Dyson and it only comes in an upright. I guess what I need to figure out is if the extra $100 is worth it or not.
Let me know if you have personal experiences that you can share with me. I need to make a decision fast because I need to clean my floors!
I have been somewhat addicted to certain daytime soap operas since I was in college, almost 30 years! One show in particular I even TIVO every day so I can watch it and keep up with all the action. I think soap operas are addictive because they always leave you hanging. They’re experts at the “cliff hanger”, whether it’s just before a commercial or at the end of the hour, and don’t even get me started on the Friday cliff hanger that keeps you hanging on till the Monday show!
Cliff hangers are an old trick used in books and movies and on just about any series television show. I think it only makes sense to see companies out there on the web taking advantage of this very same type of addictive cliff hanger. One of the most creative I’ve seen is Red Chair Confessions which keeps us coming back to see the next video to try to figure out exactly what these so called “confessions” are all about.
Red Chair Confessions has several viewable videos including a priest confessional where the confessor states she participated in a certain act multiple times and knows she should stop. She leaves before the priest can even tell her to complete her specified number of Hail Mary’s. Another video shows the same gal visiting her therapist who appears to be taking notes, but instead seems to be noting the accessories her client is wearing. A third video shows a mom in her walk in closet, video taping herself confessing to her addiction. The question for the viewer of every video is, “what is the addiction”? There is definitely enough sexual innuendo in each video to make you think it’s something sexual, but, in my opinion, I think that’s the hook to keep us coming back to watch more videos!
I have an idea of what it’s leading up to, but I’m going to let you watch this video and you tell me what you think.
Just a quick note to apologize for my recent absences. It has been crazy busy this week with doctor appointments (routine), school functions, softball and last but not least, our homeowner’s nightmare, a hot water tank that burst in our attic.
Between working, having plumbing work done (a new eco-friendly water tank installed) and my daughter’s school and softball obligations, I haven’t had very much time to be on the computer. I’ve been dropping EC when I can, but it’s been somewhat sporadic this week. The coming week will hopefully be calmer, although, I’m still trying to get a ceiling and wall repaired from the water damage.
Please bear with me. I’m hoping my life will return to its somewhat mundane normalcy soon!
In the mean time, I hope everyone in the U.S. is enjoying a relaxing Labor Day weekend.
Okay, this isn’t about sewing, but it is about family and family finances which affect all of us. I’ve had an extremely stress filled week and so, while sitting down doing some reading in an effort to relax, I ran across a press release discussing the benefits of breast feeding an infant. Please keep in mind, what I write here are my own words and opinions, but the press release just got me thinking and I thought I would share.
I believe that most people would agree that breast feeding is the most nutritional and most economical way for new mothers to feed their infant children. Of course, it does require the mother to be healthy, eat healthy foods and stay hydrated so that the breast milk she produces is in fact nutritional for the baby. It is economical because there is no baby formula to buy, or very little as some moms do choose to supplement breast feeding with baby formula. In fact, the press release I read stated that there is a potential annual savings of $2,000 simply by not purchasing baby formula! Now, all that said and done, there are certainly women who, for one reason or another, are unable to breast feed and must use baby formula in order to provide their infant a healthy, nutritious meal.
The press release also went on to provide information on WIC, a federal agency that provides food, nutrition counseling, and access to health services to low-income women, infants, and children. You see, WIC has come out with a new package it is offering which encourages breast feeding. How does it do this? Well, the new WIC package apparently is offering less money for the purchase of baby formula than it has in the past, %13 less in fact to those who either do both breast feeding and formula feeding or to those who do only formula feeding. I understand if they are trying to encourage breast feeding, but I’m a bit nervous about how this could impact those low income mothers who may be, for whatever reason, unable to breast feed. If they have less money to purchase baby formula, how will they feed their children? I’m hoping that WIC decides to look at these women on a case by case basis and not leave them with their children going hungry.
The good news, besides possibly seeing an increase in breast feeding among new moms, is that if a parent does need to purchase baby formula, all formulas have to meet the exact same FDA standards, so purchasing the generic brand will get you the same quality baby formula that paying a higher price will get you. So, anyone, whether or not they receive anything from the WIC agency, can feel confident that they are giving their infant the best, most nutritional formula on the market, no matter which brand they buy.
Well, these are just my thoughts, what do you think?
